Songwriters do not write for didactic purposes. Songs are authentic texts, this is their disadvantage and their advantage for the purposes of learners. All of the songs suggested here go beyond A1 level, their musical and poetic value differs greatly, their language and style covers all levels, from ordinary (or worse) to poetic (Songwriters like De André, De Gregori, Guccini, Fossati, Capossela and others). Songs cannot replace a textbook or a program like Duolingo, but they can supplement it – and they are fun, too.
