I don't know what Duo is thinking, but 6852 lessons (not to mention the Stories) in 199 Units is simply too much all in one course. I hope they are collecting data on how many potential students are put off by the scale of the course and decide to move to another learning app.

Do you know if the lessons are the same as before, just reordered?

Roughly speaking, there were about 247 topics before. Usually five lessons and five levels per topic, so that's about 6175 in total. Obviously, the number is not correct (sometimes there are less lessons and/or levels), but adding 72 sets of four stories (288 in total), we are getting close to the number 6852 that you cited...

Yes, I agree. I really like the French course precisely because it is so big. I have finished slightly more than half of it on the lowest level. I had been looking for years for a way to brush up my French. My problem is that I have enough passive understanding of the French language to read novels and watch TV, but at the same time my active vocabulary is not good enough, and I make a lot of silly mistakes (seulment? seulement?). Doing French on Duolingo (in keyboard mode, without the word bank) helps me with both problems, without the usual bore-out that I get from typical textbooks.

So the interesting thing is that lessons are spread through the units. For example, "Lesson 1" is the first part of Unit 1, but it is also the first and the sixth part of Unit 2. It's maybe a bit difficult for me to explain, but I'll try to sort of outline it:

• Lesson 1 = 1-1 (intro) + 2-1 (1st review) + 2-6 (2nd review)

• Lesson 2 = 1-2 (intro) + 2-5 (1st review) + 3-5 (2nd review)

• Lesson 3 = 2-2 (intro) + 3-3 (1st review) + 4-3 (2nd review)

• Lesson 4 = 3-1 (intro) + 4-1 (1st review) + 5-3 (2nd review)

• Lesson 5 = 3-6 (intro) + 5-1 (1st review) + 6-3 (2nd review)

I see the ultimate post will reference this significant post by our amazing [mention]MatOzone[/mention] . Yet I have found a discrepancy - not unexpected , (for duolingo ?) - between what Duolingo refers to "lessons by" - in resources such as for educators, and the links that get you there.

I wish to thank you especially BlahBlah for continuing this conversation, and also being par of the development of this resource. Asking questions and putting up suggestions also helps the development of resources.

For anyone wanting to follow the "rawish spreadsheet" that I am using to create resources for the new Duolingo Path for French for English speakers, I will post the link at the bottom of this post.

However - it is very much a work in progress.

To create a post for linking to all Duolingoo stories in this current path, for information on how / what you need to do to gain access to them.
To ... oh ... if you want to find a unit that deals with a particular topic, such as my immediate concern of que or qui, ... and for it to be what ever the word / grammar topic - that is relevant to you as a learner or an educator. That you are trying to teach / learn - because that is what you are motivated to do for whatever reason - be it something in real life - or to pass a test, or you are just curious , etc.

i.e. ... opening a bank account, or what to do in car accident / rive / some sort of emergency.
Or focusing on at a restaurant, or booking and staying at a hotel.
Or renting a car / bike / something.

The links that are useful are the Guide books - though currently for the French course they seem to me to be "predictable" in the coding they have used to reference it - related to which Unit.

For learning (to assist Educators - but I consider are also good for motivated learners), they have given all the different "lessons types/challenges" a tag field that is either "INTRO", "REVIEW" , "PRACTICE" , "GRAMMAR", "UNIT CHALLENGE", "STORY' .
(confirmed - these are the only tags currently used in new PATH french for english course)

The "Related lessons" (a term used by Duolingo) has the first lesson in the string of 3 tagged "INTRO", and 2 & 3 tagged "REVIEW". I am not sure if this helps. But thought it appropriate to mention - in case it was relevant.
