Aujourd'hui, c'est la fête nationale française - comment est-elle célébrée?

Le jour de la fête nationale américaine, j'ai appris sur le chat que certaines personnes font la fête pendant toute une semaine autour de ce jour férié.

Comment cela se passe-t-il en France?

Il y a un grand défilé à Paris : armée, garde republicaine à cheval, patrouille de France...
Et des défilés, parades ou autres cérémonies officielles dans les villes (j'avoue que je n'y vais jamais...)
Il y a des bals populaires dans les villes et villages, souvent organisés par les pompiers.

Et il y a des feux d'artifice, tirés soit le 13 soit le 14.
Dans le village où je suis en vacances, on en voyait 2 dans les environs hier soir. Je pense en voir encore ce soir.

À noter, pour Bordeaux : "Ruggieri, artificier historique, propose un feu d’artifice sans chlorate, sans plomb et sans retombée de plastique ni d’aluminium dans la Garonne. Pour éviter l’effarouchement des oiseaux exposés au risque de crise cardiaque au moment des déflagrations, les tirs seront progressifs."

J'aurais pensé que les feux d'artifice étaient interdits dans de nombreuses régions en raison du risque élevé d'incendie.

C'est peut-être le cas dans certains endroits.

Nous avons des incendies de forêt en ce moment en Gironde, pas encore maîtrisés. Les feux d'artifice n'y sont pour rien. Pour un des deux, ce serait peut-être à cause d'étincelles provoquées par le freinage d'un train...

In France, it is called la fête nationale du 14 juillet. And often referred to as :

la fête nationale (national day)
or le quatorze juillet (July 14th) .

This year many regions of France are facing extraordinary fire risks. Most recently, as in the last couple of days, near Bordeaux, in the south eastern corner of France, on the Atlantic coast, in the région: Nouvelle-Aquitaine, where about 4,200 acres of forest had already been lost to wildfires this year, in the Teste-de-Buch forest , near the famous Dune du Pilat sand dunes.

This year on the 14th July I was lucky enough to see the feu d'artifice (fire works) at the historic port city of La Rochelle in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

And last weekend, on Saturday night 9th July, the small town of L'absie celebrated with fireworks - to coincide with some other festivities that had been organized for that weekend.

Ce guillemet en début de ligne n'est pas utilisé fréquemment, il me semble.

Fête de la Fédération

The Fête de la Fédération ("Feast of the Federations") was held on July 14, 1790, and celebrated with great pomp the first Anniversary of the insurrection that had occured at Bastile on July 14, 1789. On that day, tens of thousands of Parisians gathered to celebrate the unity of the new French Nation and the national reconciliation of its people. In Paris, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord held Mass at the Altar of the Fatherland, on the Champ de Mars.
The Champ de Mars (Field of Mars) is a large public greenspace in Paris, France, located in the seventh arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire to the southeast. The park is named after the Campus Martius in Rome, a tribute to the Roman god of war.

Many years later in 1880 the Third Republic cast about for ways to celebrate the foundations of the regime. A Deputy for the Seine Department, Benjamin Raspail, moved that July 14 be named the national holiday of the Republic, and Parliament passed an act to that effect on July 6, 1880, also making it a public holiday.

From the outset, the emphasis was on the patriotic and military character of the event, expressing France’s recovery from the defeat of 1870. Every commune or locality in France held its own celebration, starting with a torchlight parade on the evening of the 13th. The next morning, church bells or gun salutes announced the military parade, which is followed by a luncheon, spectacles and games, with dancing and fireworks ending the day.

Significant Places in Paris for la fête nationale du 14 juillet

Place de la Bastille

The Place de la Bastille is a square in Paris where the Bastille prison once stood, until the storming of the Bastille and its subsequent physical destruction between 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 during the French Revolution. No vestige of the prison remains.

At Place de la Bastille is a corinthian column atopped by a statue of Génie de la Liberté (the "Spirit of Freedom") brandishing the torch of civilisation and the remains of his broken chains.

14 July military parade : Défilé militaire du 14 juillet

Traditionally the Défilé militaire du 14 juillet moves up the Champs Elysées from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe .

Between 1974 to 1980 under the presidency of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing the parade route was changed each year,
including marching between the Place de la Bastille and Place de la République.

Place de la République has the statue of Marianne - a French symbol of the revolutionary values of liberté, égalité et fraternité liberty, equality and fraternity.

Ce doit être magnifique de voir les fêtes en France.
Et au bord de l'Atlantique, il y a certainement un climat agréable - pas trop chaud.
