Frage zu einem Personalpronomen

Post by Frank916855 »

Hallo zusammen,

A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish, John Butt and Carmen Benjamin:

11.16.3 Le for redundant les

There is a strong tendency in spontaneous language everywhere to use the singular le in this construction for the plural les, especially, but not exclusively, when the pronoun refers to a human being. . . . Le for les is widespread even in quite formal speech.

(Carlos Fuentes, Mex.)
no darle importancia a los detalles
Bayardo San Román le puso término a tantas conjeturas. (G. García Márquez, Col.)

Sentences like él les (for le) da mucha importancia a las apariencias may sound odd to some speakers. But use of the singular le for les is technically 'wrong', and should be avoided in formal writing -- e.g. in this case by omitting the redundant pronoun altogether.

Was machen wir nun mit dieser Aussage? :)

(If there are errors in what I'm writing in either language, please do correct me - I'll never take it as offense or something like that.)
