vero-bis Thank you! One more question. I gather you don't use malheur quiconque/à celui qui to suggest something terrible will happen to someone — the way you can use woe betide/to someone — but rather, only to wish someone misfortune. If that's true, how would you translate woe betide/to someone in this context?

I think we have French twice, too (#2 & 8), perhaps you could add these?

I am sorry I just saw your message. I have been dealing with insomnia for the past two weeks. But I see Gmads has already added a comparison; Could you explain our mistakes and correct them, @vero-bis?

Thank you for the comparisons of the different English and Italian translations.

All the credit goes to Gmads ;)

I was just acting on your behalf ;) Thanks! :)

No, it is the same idea than in English : sth terrible will happen to him.
To wish someone a great misfortune, you could use a sentence with "maudire" : Je te maudis ! Que tu sois maudit ! It is a very very strong word, and very old dated also !

I'm in the process of creating a little story for the next translator jumble. As it's been a while: who is still participating?

Lama has left the forum.

In order to include McGonnagle I still have to make a Chinese translation and start with that one because I'm the only one with Chinese as a common language. That's a challenge, but I like challenges (and hopefully I can verify my Chinese version with a Chinese friend)

Sorry - it took a while because I wanted a Chinese version of my text and only today had the time to really check again what I have got now (with the help of a Chinese friend). I am sending this Chinese version to McGonnagle right away.

The following translation steps should now be possible. I hope I didn’t forget anyone. We lost some German since the end of last year…

MoniqueMarie : Chinese Version of the text (the original was a mixture of German and English, now available in English, German and Chinese)
McGonnagle : back to English

Good idea: I can provide a German, English and Chinese version of the text.

Otherwise, I am unfortunately still completely consumed by my work.

While waiting for others to share their opinions, I'd like to suggest my idea: we remove @Duome and @Izabela, swap @Stasia and @vero-bis's places and ask @Dana_Dany Danuta to translate one more time, into Polish

MoniqueMarie: into Chinese
McGonnagle: into English
Dana_Dany Danuta: into Polish
Stasia: into Spanish
gmads: into Italian
Meli578588: into French
MustafaOuz526752: into English

In Germany it would be quite unfriendly to call someone "the StaSi".

In Germany StaSi is a short form for Staatssicherheit (state security). But in the Eastern Democratic Republic it was mainly about spying on their own folks - and people from Western Germany. They recruited citizens to spy upon each other. People ended up in jail without any wrong doing, just because someone blamed them of whatever.
Sorry, this is a very short answer, but I'm too tired for a well phrased and thorough explanation.
