Stories are added to several more courses

Post by SweNedGuy »

For many years DL users criticized that stories were restricted to a few languages in courses from and to English.
Native English speakers found stories in their Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian course (although fewer). Perhaps there were stories for a few more languages, but I am not aware of it.
Native speakers of the above languages found stories only in their English course... until recently.

Just a personal opinion: it would be great if DL got rid of all translations in stories, asking questions only in the target language. After all, there are plenty of translation exercises all over the course. Learning to understand and correctly answer questions in the target language is however evaluated nowhere. The same set of stories could then be used 'plug and play' in all courses teaching that language.

Over the past years, DL has been aligning the stories. A reduced but identical set of stories is offered. Adapting this set to a different teaching language involves some editorial work, but no new recordings: only headings and multiple choice questions need to be translated.

I noticed stories appearing in the French course from Spanish, in the German course from Dutch and in the Portuguese course from French ... there may be more and more story introductions will most likely follow.
