To get the past form, you extract the い and add かった at the end

つまらな～い → つまらな + かった → つまらなかった(です)

The です at the end is not part of the word, it's just there as a way to transform the sentence into something more soft and polite, this is done because i-adjective can be considered too direct in opinion.

～くない is negative present tense

Swisidniak : つまらなかった is the past form of the adjective, not negative. To form the past-tense the final い is dropped and かった is added

つまらない is the positive form of the verb "is boring"
つまらなくない would make it negative "is not boring" ( drop い add くない )
つまらなくなかった is past-negative "was not boring" (drop い from the negative くない ending and add the past ending かった )
