jphi13720 : Hello, Anybody to teach me the status of つまらなかった please...?
TyrantRC : t's an i-adjective, 詰まらない【つまらない】usually in kana.To get the past form, you extract the い and add かった at the end
つまらな~い → つまらな + かった → つまらなかった(です)
The です at the end is not part of the word, it's just there as a way to transform the sentence into something more soft and polite, this is done because i-adjective can be considered too direct in opinion.
hoodedmidget : How do you negate it? Not boring? つまらなくなかった?
Swisidniak : つまらない - Boring
つまらなくない - Not boring
つまらなかった - Was boring
つまらなくなかった - Was not boring~かった is the past tense ending
~くない is negative present tense
Past negative is a combination of the two, with the い-adjective ない ending of くない conjugating to past tense ~くなかった
Reves16 : I've been wondering for the past two weeks as to how can I type on a US keyboard the kana for "Party" it always ends up as one of the two things: パーチー and パーテー
Thanks in advance
TyrantRC : パーティー «pa-thi-» using a rōmaji input.you can also type "xi" or "li" for ぃ which is the small い。
EarthFer : Shouldn't it be "wasn't the party yesterday boring?" Isn't tsumaranai (tsumaranakkata) the negative form of the verb?
Swisidniak : つまらなかった is the past form of the adjective, not negative. To form the past-tense the final い is dropped and かった is addedつまらない is the positive form of the verb "is boring"
つまらなくない would make it negative "is not boring" ( drop い add くない )
つまらなくなかった is past-negative "was not boring" (drop い from the negative くない ending and add the past ending かった )
Guillaume796798 : How would you ask informally ?
TyrantRC : 昨日のパーティーはつまらなかった?
Ramioo1 : Can we say つまらない でしたか??
Swisidniak : つまらない is an い-adjective, meaning it inflects like a verb and can end a sentence on its own. The です in this case is only to add politeness and does not serve an inflection role. です is used to inflect nouns.
つまらない - is boring
つまらなくない - is not boring
つまらなかった - was boring
つまらなくなかった - was not boring
BayGaillar : I recently turned on typing in japanese instead of the wordbank and I can't get it to give me パーティー , it gives me パーチー instead. Anyone know how I get it to type the former?
Swisidniak : type "pa-thi-"
"thi" will give you the proper ティ
