script questions

Post by dstepl »

I'm doing the alphabet exercises in Hindi, and two questions came up regarding the r sounds:

How does one get ऋ from र and ि ? They look nothing alike!

ढ़ is listed as "Rh" but seems to make an "eh" sound. Is this correct?

The use of upper and lower case for different consonants is confusing, especially since I've seen other transcription systems, but it's just something I'll have to live with.

ऋ used to make a different sound (syllabic / r̩/) in the past, it’s just a coincidence that it ended up merging with रि in Hindi.

As for ढ़, Duo’s audio just pronounces it एढ़. The consonant is still there, but it incorrectly adds a vowel in front.
