Our Team Member luo-ning implemented a new feature (a phpBB extension) which allows that a topic about a very specific question or issue can now be marked as "Topic is Solved" (question is answered)
The answered topics are also marked in a search results list, so they can easily be spotted.
How does it work
- it's a marker "solved"/"answered" PER TOPIC
- can be set via the "accept this answer" button on any of the replies
- ONLY ONE REPLY can be marked ... the first good answer? the most complete one? (++)
- only THAT specific reply as well as the TOPIC get the green "check" marker
- the marker can be unset from any of the replies in that topic
Who can use it?
- only authors of topic can set the marker
- moderators can also manage the status.
- moderators can optionally close the topic if no more discussion is needed/wanted
- the new feature can be activated per forum
(++) so only ONE reply can be set as the (best) answer... so we should be aware that - here on a language discussion forum - all replies together lead (may have lead) to "answering the (translation/language) question (i.e. solving the issue).
So technically you have to mark ONE reply, and only one can be marked, but that does not mean that it's the best one, not the only one, nor the most complete... Which is maybe good after all, to avoid "competition"...This is important in the understanding of the marker.
Here are some screenshots
unmarked topic - the marker button is available on any of the replies - pick your favorite reply (can be only one ...)
Topic and (the one) reply are marked
All replies get the "set as unsolved" button
