Announcement on Forums supported by Duolingo

Post by dakanga »

Please NOTE - this is concerning the Duo Archive : https://discord.gg/794mjSKU7p (previously : Unofficial Official Duolingo Discord)
Summary : The previously named "Unofficial Official Duolingo Discord" will be renamed simply to "Duo Archive", and Duolingo will fully partner and merge that Discord community into their server - i.e. to this one now called Duolingo at : https://discord.gg/G2kpndH .

This is NOT concerning our forum at forum.duome.eu !

Source - published by Duolingo in the Unofficial Official Duolingo Discord :
First of all, thank you all for being a part of the Duolingo community and contributing so much, both to this server and the community in general. As some of you may know, we tried to get this Discord server up and running as quickly as we could in light of the forums closing, which meant we didn't have a lot of time to plan details ahead of time. After some time to get our bearings, we have some big news to share!
In order to keep the community together and focus our efforts to give everyone the best experience we can, we have been talking to the owners of the Unofficial Official Duolingo Discord server, which many of you are already familiar with, about ways to cooperate. We have now decided to fully partner and merge this community into their server! We’re very excited about this step, as it’s beneficial for both Duolingo and you as users to have a bigger learning community and additional support to make more fun things happen. They have many members and a great structure already that aligns very well with a lot of feedback you all have been sharing with us over the last weeks.

The Duolingo Staff and Moderators active here will continue to be active and contribute in the same way there. For clarity, the Unofficial Official Duolingo Discord will be renamed simply to Duolingo. This server, renamed for now to Duo will remain open for a time while we work on transitioning everything over, but may be switched to read-only at some point.

All that said, we'd like to encourage everyone to join us over on https://discord.gg/G2kpndH :![Duo 30](

Thank you again for supporting Duolingo!

That being said, I continue to find it not engaging for language learning in the discord environments.
In My Opinion (IMO), they are more about chit chat, and more like "gaming" and not learning, for me that is. However they seem very busy, and IMO, are a marketing tool that Duolingo is wishing to maintain the community for. Though I am not find them engaging for the purposes of learning.

I have posted this in announcements, as I thought that this community is interested in knowing what Duolingo is up to. As Duolingo courses are of use to supplement language learning. However I find the Duolingo courses need to be supplemented by other resources, such as provided here, and ones that can be interactive.

Not a static : read this posts, such as Tips and Notes by Duolingo, or the not interactive : https://duolinguists.wordpress.com/
(Articles written or selected by Duolingo moderators to help you learn multiple languages.)

Yet I also see glimmers of usefulness for learning in that style of discord forum, and what can be done in an environment such as discord, if enough appropriate sub communities are able to forum through using that platform.

It is still early days also for the community in discord concerning language learning.

And I hope that community continues to thrive.

I wanted to join the Duolingo Discord server to check it out and see what it is like, but it looks like the invitation is now invalid. (At least for me)

Learning: Italian and Arabic.

Jacko079 , are you talking about this one : https://discord.gg/G2kpndH ?

I do not doubt your experience.

Please though let me know.

Though - I am just like you, I have no inner communications channels, but I am more than happy to see if I can make some communications occur regarding this issue.

@Jacko079 , are you talking about this one : https://discord.gg/G2kpndH ?

Yes. When on a computer, I was told the invite was invalid. Now, on an iPad, I am able to sign up. But, when I get to the CAPTCHA, which I solve correctly, I am given it over an over again. As soon as I finish a CAPTCHA, I am given another one.

I guess I’m a robot. 🤫

I've had the same problem using an iPad. It could be browser related (if you're using it at all). I noticed using Opera browser on iPad could solve the repeating CAPTCHA problem.
You can also try this link: https://discord.com/channels/193958989627785217/

But to tell you the truth I'm not finding anything of value to this channel. I mean, it's definitely great for chatting and practicing your language skills or asking a quick question, but for someone who's still learning the language I think it's very chaotic. And honestly most of the time I don't even know what I'm doing lol. (tl/dr I'm not old but I'm too old for this.)

From the discord forum that VERY soon will be once again be "archived" by Duolingo :

Another reminder to join us on the new server: http://discord.gg/duolingo
We have merged with them and this server is now mostly set to be read-only, to keep interacting with everyone, please join us there :duoHeart:

https://discordapp.com/channels/8721755 ... 4850661407

And a heads up - if there is anything you have posted in that other forum on Discord, Duolingo and that community is about to make it "read only".

Feel empowered to save any resources you value here - in this forum. This forum of duome.eu .

As Duolingo closes yet another forum.

Apparently I'm a robot too. :robot: The same happens to me on a laptop, win10 & Edge.

dakanga Duolingo is on a roll with its forums, steaming right ahead, no doubt losing passengers left and right! I'm sure they are trying to streamline things with this "new" forum. Interesting that this one will get the courtesy of becoming read only, possibly because it is not on their site?

I am only a month into using Duolingo, but I have tried to use Discord in the past. For me, this Duome site is far easier to use intuitively. Thank you for creating it!

I joined the Discord but don’t know whether I’ll stay. Seems very chaotic and fast moving. Not sure yet if I’ll find it useful to be on it.

Please stay. Take your time to settle in. If you only find the answer to one question about your language learning it must be worth it.

One link to a new teacher, website or access to answers about Duolingo could change your mind. You don't need to read every comment or access the site every hour but a few minutes once a week could save you hours of frustration or give you the answer you need.

What ever you decide, enjoy your learning.

I ended up leaving the Duolingo Discord. It moves too fast and there's a lot of chitchat and I wasn't getting anything out of it except annoyed that I constantly had a new notifications badge on the app.

@JudieLC Same. It's way too busy and confusing.

Working on repairing the 🇳🇴 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 Legendaries after the 2023 updates, but not sure how to complete it all since I'm out of gems due to refusing to pay for the Snake  as long as a kind soul keeps me in their family plan Image
