Your duolingo forum registration isn't automaticaly transferred to duome forum so in order to join duome forums you need to register with your existing or any other username and email; in any case it's advised that you choose a new password for the forum.

I changed my profile to a more updated photo of my dog, Jack. Though for some reason it seems because of the change, my profile picture is now an oval....
Is there anything I should/can do?
Your picture is an oval because the original one it is not a square but a rectangle.
If you want it to be displayed as a circle you need to upload a 100x100 image, for example.
You could replace it with this
