To post an image, use this code :

  • ![](URL link for image)

Optional Text

  • !["hover text"](URL link for image)

Recommendation: include "hover text", to assist those with vision impairment, or for slow internet, or the region/country they are in blocks the reference for the image. It is not necessary to include "hover text", just a nice thing to do.

Here are a few url links I have prepared for you. By copying the text highlighted in yellow into your posts, it will show these images.

Also, this is just the first steps to learn how to use the power of images. To check out Images: Stage 2, for now click here. However in the near future I will be re-writing the information there as well.

You can post links to other images from the internet - by referring to the URL address of the image. Ensure you include the image extension. ie. .png, .jpg, .gif, etc. Not all image formats are supported in Duolingo Markdown code. If your image is not produced, then either you have a fault with your link, or have selected an image format not supported in Duolingo discussions.

How to find images others have posted on the internet.

i.e. in google:
![Google Search for Duolingo Images](

Search for an image you are after, and remember to select the option for Images.

How do you get a published image URL ?

  1. Locate the image you want.
  2. Right-click the image.
Depending on what system you’re using, select the image URL by clicking one of these:
    • Chrome: Copy image address
    • Safari: Copy image address
    • Internet Explorer: Properties and then Copy the URL address shown
    • Firefox: Copy image location

Then, copy that URL link to the image into your code: ![](URL link for image)

Images: Stage 2

I want to post my own images

If you want to post an image you have created in a Duolingo Discussion, you need to host it somewhere.
You can check out `image hosting sites' to locate one, and many are free.
A common one I see used here is https://imgur.com

A simple way to show images in Discussions.

Use image links that have .png, .jpg, .gif, etc. in their URL. You cannot use images from your computer, you'll need a link to an image that is stored up on the WWW, ie you need to link to an image hosting site, to either a picture already on the image hosting site, or to create and save an image to the site.

Basic

  • ![](URL of image)

Optional Text

  • !["optional text/hover text"](URL of image)
Please consider always including "hover text", as this also is of assistance to people with vision impairment, or if their internet is slow, or the region/country they are in blocks the reference for the image.

Clickable

  • [!["optional text"](URL of image)](URL redirect)
  • [![](URL of image)](URL redirect)

Examples:

  • ![]( ![Duo18](https://imgur.com/7jVFNyw.png))
    [![optional text]( ![Duo18](https://imgur.com/7jVFNyw.png))](https://www.duolingo.com/stories)

HOW IT LOOKS..

  • Clickable: click on this and it will take you to Duolingo Stories.
    [![](URL of image)](URL redirect)
    i.e.
    [![Duo Stories](https://imgur.com/7jVFNyw.png)](https://www.duolingo.com/stories)
    ![Duo Stories](https://imgur.com/7jVFNyw.png)

You might want to host your image somewhere so you can get a URL to link to. In that case, many people use free services like imgur (make sure you adjust your album's privacy settings so the image is not public)

Some countries, such as Turkey have recently blocked access to imgur. Other resources that you could also check out are https://postimages.org/ ; https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-imgur-a ... ng-images/

Also, consider putting some text in the [] , don't leave them empty when linking to a picture. Text in here can be useful for if for some reason the URL for the picture won't load. However the BIG advantage is that for those who are visually impaired, their page reader will read the text in []and assist their understanding. It is a kind gesture to visually impaired users using some device that read them the text aloud.
Putting text in the [] can also be useful for leaving hidden tags for reference.

And to tease you further, check out how you can reference and make your own moving gifs.

How to post smaller versions of your images (when using imgur) ?

I noticed the last couple of days people wondering about if it's possible. I don't know if it will be helpful or if it's something everyone already knows, but here's a technique I use all the time.

This particular trick works only if you are using imgur.com to host your image. Other image hosting services might well have something similar though.

Basically, immediately before the filename extension (.png, .jpg, .gif,...), you're able to add an extra letter to get an automatically generated thumbnail version of the image instead. This works for every image hosted on imgur, even for using other people's images! There are various sizes to choose from:

The original, full-sized image:

Small Square:

![](https://i.imgur.com/apaJB1Xs.png)
Note the s, just before .png.
![](

Big Square:

Tiny Thumbnail:

![](https://i.imgur.com/apaJB1Xt.png)

Medium Thumbnail:

![](https://i.imgur.com/apaJB1Xm.png)
![](

Large Thumbnail:

![](

Huge Thumbnail:

![](https://i.imgur.com/apaJB1Xh.png)
![](https://i.imgur.com/apaJB1Xh.png)

Quite often something like the large thumbnail size might be the perfect size on its own.

However, a better way to use these thumbnail sizes is to use them as actual thumbnails! Use one of the small sizes like tiny or medium to display in your post as a link to the full-sized original image, like this:

Code:

To Resize images in mac

originally posted by WarsawWill

I was having some problems with Paint, so knowing you can do most things online, I tried that. And it was really, really easy. I used https://resizeimage.net/, simply because it was first on Google's list. This took seconds (I did it by width in pixels).

I used my own images from my hard dive, then downloaded the resulting images back to my computer before uploading them to Imgur, which I didn't even have to sign up for. The whole thing was painless.

"Can people post instructions on how to do this with other drawing packages that are free ?"

Sure. Irfanview is a good alternative, it's super lightweight, simple interface and use. https://www.irfanview.com On the program, just hit ctrl+R to resize/resample, then press S to save.
