Hey guys, in an effort to keep my momentum rolling with this awesome language I'm learning, I will post some puget salish lessons. As of now I'm conversational after a year of learning (though by no means fluent). If you have questions I will try my best to answer.

Lesson 1: Introduction and pronunciation

Lushootseed is a Coast Salishan language spoken in Washington state around the puget sound. It is polysynthetic, meaning that many affixes are attached to a root in order to create words. Below is the alphabet with IPA guide:

A note on nasals: m and n (as well as their glottalized counterparts) have changed to b and d respectively in most words. The use of m and n are now confined mostly to the speech of mythological figures, usually only said when telling stories. Also found in a few words such as miʔm̓an̓ (small).

A note on dialects: As Lushootseed is spoken across the puget sound, several dialects (usually broken into southern and northern) exist. Many words are radically different in the north and south (even varying from tribe to tribe). When applicable, dialect differences will be given during lessons.

That's it for lesson one guys, lesson two will be available ASAP.

t̕igʷicid! (thanks)
