Thanks, @luo-ning. I was hoping there'd be one that didn't render the text as monospace font, but I suppose that'll have to do.

Not really sure what the use case for that is, but HTML entities are supported, so you could run the text through a converter that converts all special characters. Something like this: https://codepen.io/lionel-rowe/full/NWyxwyy

Okay, so they don't work here, but maybe someday they will

Theoretically it could be possible.
But an administrator have to add the option. I tried a few codes and they didn't worked.
Ask for it at viewforum.php?f=11-requests
Of course, writing a good reason to add the feature should help.

The easiest and fastest would be to simply left align the whole paragraph:

19. Januar 2017 - Es war eine dunkle und stürmige Nacht.

19. Januar 2017 - Es war eine dunkle und stürmige Nacht.

Another very easy and fast option would be to apply italics to the period character after the number:

19. Januar 2017 - Es war eine dunkle und stürmige Nacht.

19. Januar 2017 - Es war eine dunkle und stürmige Nacht.

The issue is that your line starts with a number+period+space.
This is interpreted as a numbered list starting with 1. It doesn't matter the number you have typed.
@gmads 's solutions work well because they break the format.
You can replace one of the characters with its xml value, for example, the space is
Unfortunately Markdown have several versions. A escape \ doesn't seem to work in this and other cases, and the preview doesn't disable the format even if you select the option.
Regular users don't have access to a test subforum, so I couldn't test more options.
Edited: not just the preview, disabling the Mardown option doesn't work atm.

What a GREAT question @wiederbelebt !

Adding most format codes at the start of a line prevents list formating

in the examples below the code reveal is displayed first, followed by how the code in formated, interpreted.

Dumb question. How do I begin the following paragraph without indentation and removal of the 9? I want 19. Januar:

 1. Januar 2017 - Es war eine dunkle und stürmige Nacht.

The issue is that your line starts with a number+period+space.
This is interpreted as a numbered list starting with 1. It doesn't matter the number you have typed.

Yes. Exactly! Thanks for clarifying it!

can someone help explain what IS :
"a numbered list"

i.e.
what it is interpreted as being applied for formatting in the version of markdown on this version of phPBB in this forum ?
Such as where will it start its numbering ?
How does it pick up previous numbering ?
The difference between bullet points and numbering ?

Thank you for the assistance in this community to expand on and explain issues.
