What are possessive pronouns?

In Ukrainian possessive pronouns are used to show possession over something. The Ukrainian possessive pronouns translate to the English my, your, his, etc.

How do we form the possessive pronouns?

Sadly the rules on how to form possessive pronouns is not regular and the just have to be learned off by heart (just like English :D)

The Possesive Pronouns

MY

  • Мій - My (masc.)
  • Моя - My (fem.)
  • Моє - My (neut.)
  • Мої - My (pl.)

YOUR [SG.]

  • Твій - Your (masc.)
  • Твоя - Your (fem.)
  • Твоє - Your (neut.)
  • Твої - Your (pl.)

HIS

  • Його - His (Same for all)

HER

  • Її - Her (Same for all)

ITS/ONE'S

  • свій - Its/One's (masc.)
  • своя - Its/One's (fem.)
  • своє - Its/One's (neut.)
  • свої - Its/One's (pl.)

OUR

  • наш - Our (masc.)
  • наша - Our (fem.)
  • наше - Our (neut.)
  • наші - Our (pl.)

YOUR [PL.]

  • ваш - Your (masc.)
  • ваша - Your (fem.)
  • ваше - Your (neut.)
  • ваші - Your (pl.)

THEIR

  • їх (Same for all)

Also note that in Ukrainian there is no difference between words like my or mine:

  • Мій кіт - My cat

but

  • Кіт – мій - The cat is mine
