Quick Guide

Perhaps your first problem is having the interface in other language, usually English.

Change the language

After logging in, go to

https://forum.duome.eu/ucp.php?i=ucp_pr ... e=personal

You will see

Image

  1. Open the language dropdown menu on the sign indicated with the purple arrow.

  2. Select your language.

  3. Don't forget to tap the Submit button, indicated with the orange arrow.

Frequently Asked Questions

After changing the language, you can go from each forum page to a basic help, but that it is enough to start using them.
This is in the right corner in the footer, the question mark as shown in the image:

Differences and similarities with Duolingo forum

¡YOU CAN UPLOAD IMAGES AND COMPRESSED FILES FROM YOUR DEVICE!

  • Up to 256 KiB, that is enough because the images in this message only are only 40 KiB or less.
You can also attach pdfs, tables, etc. in their original format. Just compress them and attach them.
New: You can now directly attach xls*, doc*, dot*, pdf, ai, ps, ppt*, od* and rtf files.

    • Use jpg for your camera images. Use a small size and reduce the quality.

    • Use png for screenshots and little color drawings.

    • Gif is good for animated images.

  • Open the Attachments Tab below the message box as shown in the image.

Image

  • Tap Add files or drag and drop them into the message box.

  • To place an image, activate the cursor at the desired place and tap the Place inline button.

Remark: You can only upload 3 files per message .

MOST DUOLINGO FORMAT WORKS PERFECTLY HERE!

  • You can copy and paste an original message posted in Duolingo without editing it or just with a minor correction.

  • MarkDown is working here, and some other BBCode's codes.

Remark: You can read an explanation on how to get the original message at viewtopic.php?p=543#p543

¡NO MORE DOWN VOTES!

  • There is a button to approve a message.

  • And an other one to report abuse.

¡NO MORE HIDDEN COMMENTS!

  • Once a post has a replay, it isn't possible to remove it.
The OP can only edit it.

A SIGNATURE CAN BE ADDED TO MESSAGES!

  • There are no Duolingo flags and levels, no streak. But you can customize a signature.

¡YOU HAVE A DARK MODE!

  • Below the avatar, you can switch to dark mode, if you wish.

DIFFERENT ORGANIZATION OF MESSAGES

In Duolingo there are three or four tabs for messages .
But in Duome you navigate through a tree structure, opening the various subforums.

There is also a quick access below the avatar, in the upper right corner.

Very important: You have to go to the top of the page, otherwise the access is hidden.
This is placed to the right of the dark mode button.

Tap the Ξ icon and you can see:

  • Your posts
You can go to a list of your posts.

  • New posts
    The most recent posts.

  • Unread Posts
Tip: It is a good idea to tap Mark all read to avoid a huge, useless list.

  • Unanswered topics

  • Active topics

  • Posts toplist
The most voted at the moment.

  • Search and others
List of members, admin, in red, global moderators, in green and other Team members in blue.
    And more…

Important: We can subscribe and bookmark each subject using the monkey wrench at the top or bottom of them.

MESSAGE EDITOR WITH PREVIEW.

Before posting a message you can see who it will be displayed to.
And the message box has several button for easy editing.
You can see the functions in the following image.

Image

On the right, below the smilies, you have links to basic help for using MarkDown and BBCode.
There are some differences between their use on Duolingo and Duome. But usually texts according with Duolingo formatting work here too.

A more detailed explanation at Basic editing in the message box
In the next few days I'll post an English version.

LOTS OF OPTIONS FOR SEARCHING AND SETTING UP

At the top, on the right, you have a permanent head as shown in the following image

Image

Type some words and tap the magnifying glass.
If the words are too common, you may get an error message.
Type the words with a wilcard, e.g. messag*.

Tapping the gear icon you can see an advanced search window.

Alternative: you can use a web search engine. It is possible that very recent post may not appear in the results.
This was my way of searching on Duolingo. Its search tool is not fine.
And it is also useful if you want to see the posts according to their author.
Type, e.g.,

Code: Select all

site:forum.duome.eu "eI000yo"

.
Double quote marks are necessary if the user name uses non-standard characters.
Google found no results, Yandex 9 results and Bing 6 results.

Notifications

Tapping the bell you get a window with your lastest notifications.
The content is related to our configuration. A link to setting is at the head of the dropdown window.
The link on the footer See All go to: User Control Panel>Overview>Manage Notifications.

Private messages

It works like a mail agent. Tapping the envelope you go to the Inbox tab of Private messages in the Control Panel.
There are a few tabs here: Compose messages, Manage PM drafts, etc.
Remark: A sent message will stay in Outbox if it is not reading. You can edit a message if is was not read yet.
After it is opened, it is moved to Sent messages.

Avatar

By tapping your profile picture you can see three links:

User Control Panel

This opens the Control Panel on the Overview>Front page.
It is a summary of your activity.

Profile

In this link you have some user statistics.
And you have a link to edit your profile.

Logout

Exactly. Here you can log out.

The sign

Is the same as the avatar.

You have a list of subscribed subforums in ucp.php?i=ucp_main&mode=subscribed.
You can also unsubcribe from the subforums here.

This is the question mark icon.
It has a link to app.php/help/faq
