Two years ago:

Hallo alles!

Today was very pleasant. I used German for the
very first time in a real life situation. I was always
understood, although I think my grammar must have
been atrocious!

The Germans around me were so very helpful and
friendly. I met an author Stefan Müller and his
lovely wife. I didn't photograph them, but they were
extremely helpful and friendly on the train and
since the original train to Frankfurt went kaput in
Köln (Cologne) they directed me to where I needed
to change cars in Mannheim. Without them, I might
have gotten lost. I actually ended up meeting my
destination about an hour earlier than by my
original itinerary!

I tried to look up Stefan online, but the name is too
common, and so I do not think I'll find him that way.

I am settled in my accommodations, and just have set
up my computer, in order to type this message.

Right now I am having my first German Beer in
Germany as I type this. I am overwhelmed with
excitement and anticipation regarding what will
be in the upcoming weeks.

May all of us have the same success with learning
as I am now having.

בס״ד

Thanks so very much.
Keep up the good work.

Have you been back to German since, or are you planning do so?

It would be interesting with a following up!

Enjoyed my time in Germany immensely. Its hard to actually convey the flavour of Germany to others i find. Have you experienced this?

Words that spring to mind regarding the people: Forthright, helpful, analytical, warm hearted amongst other qualities.

Cities: Immaculately clean, orderly, extremely well maintained, built on functionality.

Countryside: Breathtaking, purest air...

What i remember most: The unmistakably German smell of chocolate, marzipan gebacktes Brot, Kaffee und Kuchen - all rolled into one! ;)

I would like to, but it was pretty expensive, and that was a few years ago. Now that the dollar is being destroyed by the US congress and government, I'm assuming it is going to just keep getting more and more expensive.

Also, this virus hysteria is world wide, and the borders are not yet completely back open, and that said, especially in European nations, there are many draconian restrictions still crushing normal people's freedom of movement (as long as you're not one of the elites, of which I am not). I hear that all over Africa, and in Asian countries, they are acting as if there isn't any virus at all. And not a peep from the media that there are huge outbreaks there or multiples of people dropping dead. An African cab driver was laughing to me about it a few weeks ago. There they aren't shooting people up with experimental remedies and the people aren't wearing any masks. Sorry if that bothers anyone, but that said it should bother us.

We'll have to see. I wish I could go back.

Thanks so very much.
Keep up the good work.
