I've opened a new Proton Mail account, and I'm trying to change my email address, but I'm getting an error message:
The entered email domain has no valid MX record.
What am I doing wrong?
Dear anyone,
Your duolingo forum registration isn't automaticaly transferred to duome forum so in order to join duome forums you need to register with your existing or any other username and email; in any case it's advised that you choose a new password for the forum.

This seems to be a duome.eu server configuration issue. The server administrator would need to look into it.

It's a security setting. We may have a bit more spam if we disable it. Shall we try nonetheless?
Can you please explain what exactly is enabled or disbled? How is my email address related to spam?

This how I see it: a random spammer can come up with a rather random string for email, something like anybody@anywhere.com, so phpbb tries to look for a mail service (i.e. mx records) at anywhere.com, and if it doesn't see any, it assumes that this email is fake. I don't know how exactly Proton Mail works, maybe it has its records hidden somehow and in the end it confuses standard phpbb settings - that's why you saw that error message. If we disable this extra check, some genuine spammers may take this opprotunity and register with more fake emails (since we don't require an email confirmation for registration). Having the mx record check at least makes it a bit harder for them - they do need to set up a proper mail server in order to be able to pass through.
OK, I wrote Proton Mail support, waiting for their reply.
