  • I highly recommend DuoKeyboard, available for Chrome, Firefox and Opera. It changes your keyboard language automatically and has an option of showing you the layout during exercises. You can choose the phonetic layout for ease, although I personally recommend learning the standard Hebrew keyboard layout.
  • You can also go to the language settings of your computer and add Hebrew, or search for a virtual keyboard online. You can also find keyboard stickers for low prices online to help you learn the positions of the keys.
  • Remember that if you have a smartphone or tablet you can use the Duolingo app. Adding the Hebrew keyboard from your phone settings is easy, and will help you learn the layout of the keyboard.

We have chosen to teach the sounds of the letters with example words and short sentences. (Many Hebrew letters have more than one sound and vowels aren't always written so it's best to just get stuck in and learn from the sound of the words! The Tips and Notes also provide detailed information on the Hebrew writing system.) If you initially feel that this is too great a challenge, please use our official Memrise Hebrew Alphabet course to familiarize yourself with the letters at your own pace, and then return to the letters lessons in Duolingo.

Good luck! behatslakha! !בהצלחה

That was written before they added the Duolingo Hebrew Alphabet course, so now beginners should start with that, and then continue to the Letters 1 skill.

Unfortunately in this course they teach you the letters with all "markers" (dots etc.) Only the two last "lessons" will give some example on words with out the markers.

So it's a big jump from this little course and the main course. (And the lack of audio on single words in the main course is a bit frustrating.)
