우리는 안 들려요.
en: We cannot hear it.

Skill 81/112 (Passive 2) - Unit 41/73 (Use the passive)

I would have translated it as "We aren't heard" yet it is wrong. A very good explanation can be found in the sentence discussions (archived here) see post by user kf_b:

Why not "우리는 들을 수 없어요?"

This sentence would focus more on the fact that the subject is unable to hear things, perhaps because of old age.

By using "[subject] 들리다", it focuses more on the thing that is unable to be heard.

Why isn't it translated as "we aren't heard?"

Because that would mean "we" is the subject of the sentence. The Korean sentence would place 가 on 우리 instead of 는.

우리가 안 들려요.

Recall that the original sentence omits 그것이. The original sentence with no exclusions would be 우리는 그것이 안 들려요. Notice how 그것이 is the subject because that's what's not being heard, and not 우리.
