Your comment used the characters і & ї which don't exist in Russian, so I could immediately tell that it wasn't Russian.

You will easily distinguish these two languages by the letters, because: "We can notice the first differences by looking at the alphabet. In the Ukrainian alphabet, unlike the Russian one, there are no letters Ёё, Ъъ, Ыы, Ээ.
However, we can meet Ґґ, Єє, Іі, Її, which in turn are missing in the Russian alphabet"
