No, they are right, it's pronounced tremp, but you have to write it טרמפ with פ and not טרמף with a final ף.

When my friend came to pick me up at my relative's house, my relative instructed us:

I believe there is also the final כ, at least in transliterated names. If I remember correctly, Operation Sharp and Smooth took place in the Lebanese city of בעלבכ.

You translated the words okay.
But if she was speaking English, she would say, "Don't hitchhike." I don't think you can say that in only two words in Hebrew.

That's true between many languages. It just has to do with how things are customarily said.
