Sentence discussions subforums

Post by PtolemysXX »

Dear administrators,

kindly create "Sentence discussion" subfolders in the following forums:

Learning Chinese from English
Learning Korean from English
Learning Czech from English
Learning Dutch from English

Perhaps this would make sense for every other language where those folders don't exist yet.

Hello again,

After consulting with the Duome team, there is no objection to creating sentence discussion subforums for Chinese, Korean, Czech, and Dutch. However, it seems that there isn't much activity in those languages yet, so we prefer to wait until some phrases start to be generated. As soon as that happens, we will proceed to create the respective subforums without any problem.

Thank you for collaborating with us to improve Duome. 🙂

Thank you @Explorer for investigating the request. I have not been generating any sentence discussion topics yet because I use the android app for learning (and as far as I understand that special extension for the sentence bot works only in a webbrowser). I am planing to create new sentence discussion topics by hand and since I would do it manually I thought I could place them straight in the dedicated folders. But no worries, I'll start putting them into the main folders for each respective language. I hope it will spawn some more activity in these select languages. After a while the need for subfolders can be reevaluated.

Time passes by, the number of posts in the forums grows... I am reiterating my request to create the following subfolders in the above mentioned fora (Czech, Dutch, Korean, Chinese):

Grammar
Vocabulary
Resouces
Sentence discussions

(similar to the English->Hebrew forum)

indeed, we need restructuring a bit more.
so I'll create those.

but we could/should also use the "gmads" tag notation - as meta data - to further identify things and make them searchable.

These have been created now.
Later today, I will move those that seem like "sentence discussion" to their respective SD subforums.

Things were moved. Just let me know if anything more needs to be done.
For Korean, Chinese and Czech ... it may not be clear for me to what category it belongs ;-)

@duome
to make it work, you'll need to link the USD logic the new SD forums
czech is viewforum.php?f=475-sentence-discussions
dutch is viewforum.php?f=479-sentence-discussions
korean is viewforum.php?f=483-sentence-discussions
chinese is viewforum.php?f=487-sentence-discussions

@PtolemysXX
This means (you know that already, but I repeat it for other readers) that, when you use the "DUOME" button on a sentence from a DL lesson, it is transferred into a new duome topic (or opens the existing one).

This new topic created by our "sentence bot" goes first into what we call the "unanswered sentence discussions forum".

As soon as you create a first reply on it, e.g. to store the archive links, or a recap from the most important discussion answers, or additional accepted translations, then the topic will then be moved to the respective duome SD-sub-forum.

A good piece of information for those not yet aware of this.

BTW, the topic regarding moving all sentences under USD to their respective LangSD forum:

is still on pause. Though modifying the title could be an option, I still favor moving the sentences.

In a previous post I had suggested having the script in a cron job so sentences are moved automatically.

A sticky thread/post could be created with a link to a dynamic page that lists those sentences under LangSD that are unanswered.

I am in favor of all the measures you mention, and the solutions you gave.
Our "technicians" are not here for the moment, or they are too busy doing "other things".
Will luo-ning ever come back?

Oh, I see! Thanks.

Mh, I'd say that that seems very unlikely: "Last active:22.09.16, Fri, 05:09:53" :|
