Setting account to "private" on web not reflected in app

Post by John Little »

I set my account to "private" again on line before doing a lesson to prevent joining a league this morning, but the app is still showing the league and the league achievements.

Ive tried closing the app a few times but no change. I was hoping to complete a few daily quests without adding to my league score before hopefully rejoining the league later in the week at the bottom.

Hi, @John Little! 🙂

I changed my "public" account to "private" before starting the lesson.

I was very surprised 😲 that it didn't worked automatically with my phone app!
Leagues were still showing up for me and well I had to change my "private" account back to "public" (on computer). - something strange is happening in Duolingo! 😮 :(

Since May 12, my application is stuck in Private. I cannot change it back to Public. Only the Web changes its Privacy when I change the Privacy setting.
I can still join a League in the Web when my Web is in Public, but I don't see my league in the Application.
My Duome.eu data is not updating because my application is only in Private.

You better open a NEW thread as your account is stuck.
Seems to be a different subject.

It's worth it submitting a bug report to staff: https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/a ... ort-a-bug-

When it was working before it means someone has touched code last week which is now buggy and doesn't play along well with Duome reading the extended profiles [or that the app might not be behaving well].

Have you maybe recently upgraded the app from the Apple or Google Play store last week or this week (or an auto-update ran through)?

Can this play a roll that there might be a new bug?

See my comment above to DavidHefer where setting his account/profile to PUBLIC didn't work first time (I couldn't access it) and now it suddenly does?
Maybe there is an issue with saving the profile privacy settings on the mobile or desktop website?

If you are on the Android platform and you've recently upgraded:
I would want to suggest to try a downgrade to one of the previous 3-5 Apk versions and see if you still run into the very same issue on the app.
If you haven't touched the app for several weeks you can ignore this.

If yes, the problem might be that the Save settings button doesn't reliably work anymore or some server logic has been changed by accident.

Last Saturday, I wanted to enter a League and I didn't have a 🛡️ in my app, so I did a lesson on the Web, in PUBLIC, and entered a League.
Then, XP in the app, even though the app was in PRIVATE, was counted in the League.

I still don't understand how the app can be set to PRIVATE.
Is there a option PRIVACY on the app settings? Ios or Android? Since what version?

DavidHefer wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 4:31 pm

I saw the League only on the Web. I didn't have the app features (ramp up, etc.).

Sounds like school classroom restrictions (disabled public profile/Leagues).

Or a new app version which is buggy.

The described issue is kinda switched here (app is private and won't all to join a League vs missing progress sync with Duome) but still interesting to hear if an app update resolved this.

The problem was fixed.
All my application accounts are now Public when the Web is Public.
My Duome.eu data is updated now.
Someone fixed the bug.

If any app update has been done this or last week and a new one gets rolled out: Maybe try the next app version (if you don't want to downgrade) once it's available.

Yup. Mine is working again, too. Without any input from me.

Hello everyone,
Changing your account settings on a website to "private" may not instantly change the privacy settings inside the app, resulting in a potential gap between online and app-based interactions. If not correctly synced, this might result in unforeseen privacy problems. 8-) ;) :ugeek: :?

Since May 12, I've had a problem with my application's privacy settings. I am unable to set it back to Public since it is stuck in Private. My Duome.eu data isn't synchronising, even if the browser version refreshes successfully. Please assist in finding a solution.gb whatsapp

I see a "JMessy doesn't have any xp points" message - is this the account you meant?
