CEFR A1/A2 - Listening and understanding

Post by Basler Biker »

https://sverigesradio.se/radioswedenpalattsvenska has audio material for beginners.

It has audio tracks which are very slowly spoken and very well articulated.
So it becomes almost a "reading word by word" experience, which is fine!

Very important is also that it has the transscript written underneath, so you can follow and read word by word, while listening.
This way you associate a written word with its spoken sound.

Only 2 sites do even slightly better.

https://8sidor.se/ "Nyheter på lätt svenska" has audio tracks with synchronized transscripts. So there is no more excuse to get "lost". The sentences are mostly short, with simple vocabulary.

Combine this with the Readlang web-reader, with built in translation, and automatic flashcard generation, and you have all you need for a smooth start. Read about Readlang here

To get the best results as a beginner learning Swedish is the following
At every occasion (daily, weekly, whatever time you can spend)

  • open an 8sidor page which seems interesting to you (*)
  • run the audio
  • follow with the synchronized transscript
  • locate the words (nouns - verbs - adjectives) that seem new to you
  • import the page into Readlang
  • locate the new or difficult words, and click on them for a translation
  • note that every word that you click in Readlang, will be added to you carddeck, when you leave the Readlang webreader
  • continue browsing till the end of the article, confirm "done"
  • at this point the flashcards will be created, and wxhen done the "Flashcard" interface is shown.

You may want to play the article more than once

  • first time focussing on the text itself, so you ger the rythm
  • second time focussing on the audio, less on the text
  • third time just listening (don't look at the text anymore)
So now you are at the point of "hearing "something, and being able to recall the image of the written word

That's how you will do the listening later, when you get better, and without a transscript.

Even if you are advancing well with your Swedish, come back here on 8sidor to Listen/read another article.
Bacause tou'll encounter new words, which will be added to your deck of flashcards.
