And back into storyland.

"No me importa", yo respondí.

Well, I managed to keep this one on-topic better than last time at least. Whether or not the Spanish was any better/less bad I don't know.

OK, here's something I thought of after I made my above post. I went with 'si viniera' as the translation of 'if I came', but on thinking some more, I wouldn't say 'if I came' in English, I'd say 'if I were to come' or 'if I were going to come'. Is that true in Spanish too?

And if so, which version of 'were' or 'were going' would I need? It would obviously be subjunctive, but there's 'fuera' (but even if correct could be for 'ser' or 'ir'), 'estuviera', or, though I haven't heard of it being used this way in subjunctive, 'hubiera'. SpanishDict, now that I've tried that sentence with it, seems to favour the 'fuera a' construction, which makes me think it's the 'if I were going to come' version, but it's risky to take a machine translation at its word.

Saying, si viniera, is fine. You could say of course, si fuese/fuera a venir.
