Re: Numbers and Money

I am still working on how to create some interesting "memory palace" / method of loci to assist in learning these numbers.

My first objetive is just to learn the shapes, and associate them with the correct number value.
Note, I have increased the size of the numbers to assist seeing their detail.

Hindi numbers
0 : is similar to the Arabic 0
1 : for this, I imagine I am holding up my right hand and arm, with the thumb towards my face and my fingers bent over, and it looks similar to १
2 : Using my left hand I trace around this symbol for 1, and add in the loop at the " wrist "
3 : Looks like an Arabic 3, with a loop added to the bottom
4 : I imagine drawing a necklace with this shape of ४
5 : this is similar to २, in mirror image. so I imagine holding up my left hand, similar to before but with a sharper curve at the wrist, and with my right pointer tracing this - including the loop. Another way is to think of a 4 with an open top, and (i.e. https://wpdevshed.com/wp-content/upload ... /kalam.png ) and add a loop in as well.
6 : A mirror image of the 3 ३, and also is double the 3.
7 : I think of my right ear, and trace my right pointer finger around its edges in an anti clockwise twirl
8 : I think of line drawing of a nose - again using my right hand, and thinking of a face looking to the left
9 : is like a mirror image of 9.

can anyone

  • help me with visuals on these ideas ? such as drawings of these images etc ..
  • suggest other methods of loci for recalling these symbols ?
  • suggest other resources

I also suggest hand writting these characters. Or you could check out a resource like : https://www.iknowmyabc.com/abc_tracing/ ... acing.html

For large amounts of money the next higher unit - (crore) - is used. 1 crore = 100 lakh, i.e. ten million.

According to Wikipedia there are 22 languages with official status (Languages with official status). So for some of them there was no space left on the banknotes....

"The Hindustani word rupyā is derived from the Sanskrit word rūpya (रूप्य) , which means "wrought silver, a coin of silver",[1] in origin an adjective meaning "shapely", with a more specific meaning of "stamped, impressed", hence "coin". It is derived from the noun rūpa (रूप) "shape, likeness, image". "

The numerals used to write in decimal are called Indo-Arabic numerals. Developed in India, they were borrowed by the Arabs, and gradually spread to Europe. The similarities are hard to miss.

Hindi numbers ending in 9 are named as "un" (-1) plus the next multiple of ten. Instead of naming powers of a thousand, Hindi has unique names for a thousand, a hundred thousand, ten million etc. These peculiarities don't seem to have affected the proliferation of Indian mathematicians.
