So, I made a poem! It's a haiku poem! Meaning that there is 5 syllables on top, 7 in the middle, and 5 on the bottom! This is my poem, I actually made two! Here's the one I made for Japan.
そこに桜
行くのに素晴らしい場所
美しい日本
Translation:
Cherry Blossoms there
A wonderful place to go
Beautiful Japan

I'm not learning Japanese, but maybe I'll try soon.
I also love poetry
... my polish haiku example:
- zachodnie niebo
czerwienią zabarwione
maki na łące
translated into English:
- western sky
red colored
poppies in the meadow

Ukraine is far away
I will visit again
If I am alive
Never done a Japanese haiku before. Hopefully for all concerned that attempt will be my last.
For me, poetry is a very dangerous past time. I cannot stop when I start. It takes over my life.
I'm using language to keep my old brain working.

Say it's a blue jay!
What a noise he makes taking
Walnuts in the fray.
Is it allowed to rhyme?
@zerogrqvity Yours has a sense of nostalgia. @Jacko079 Got the idea for mine from yours.

Poem to the Portuguese explorers
Oh salty sea, how much of your salt
Are Portugal's tears!
For crossing you, how many mothers wept
How many sons prayed in vain!
For you to be ours, oh sea!

Re: A poem I made!
そこに桜
soko ni sakura (6 syllables)
行くのに素晴らしい場所
iku no ni subarashii basho (11 syllables)
美しい日本
utsukushii nihon (7 or 8 syllables)
not exactly 5-7-5 format, my friend.
桜咲く
sakura saku (5 syllables)
行っていい場所で
itte ii basho de (7 or 8 syllables)
よき日本
yoki nihon (4 or 5 syllables)
this is more like it, and I didn't change the meaning at all.
