They're ingrained in to the path, so they come when duolingo tells you they should come
DuoMe Profile Learning / + , with the most focus on for now.
Working on repairing the Legendaries after the 2023 updates, but refusing to pay for the snake makes it hard as long as a kind soul keeps me in their family plan . Legendary is finally completed again.
Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
I've enjoyed the stories more than just about any other aspect of Duolingo, so I'm really upset that I can no longer just go and read one whenever I want to. I especially miss the ability to do the stories in " speaking" mode, where the student has to read the sentences spoken by one of the characters. I was really finding this helpful in getting me used to read and speak in a more fluid way. Does anyone know of another site which does have this capability?

You can still read the stories whenever you want on https://www-internal.duolingo.com/stories, and it still has conversation mode.

Todah rabah!
What is internal.duolingo? I just looked at the link and did indeed see all the stories right where I left off. It looks like that page doesn't reflect my current XP progress though. If I read stories there, will I still be credited with the XP on the "snake"?
I'll try it later today, but I'm curious what that "internal" means.

https://www-internal.duolingo.com/learn (from which you can access https://www-internal.duolingo.com/stories by clicking on the book icon on the left) is some kind of Duolingo back-up server left to run with the old "tree" version of Duolingo. However, Duolingo plans to shut it down (no-one knows when exactly), it continuously restricts its functions (e.g., "Shop" does not work) and it does not synchronize with the "Snake" on https://www.duolingo.com/learn . Your XP's earned on internal-duolingo are still added to your profile on the "Snake" (maybe this function is not going to last much longer either), but no progress you make in lessons and/or stories is reflected there = no finished lessons and stories "translate" to you position on the "Snake". (There is just some kind of strange synchronizing backwards: if you do new lessons on internal-duolingo, then some on the "Snake" and on the internal-duolingo again, you often loose your progress and crowns on internal-duolingo.)
Luckily for us, Duome counts and records all our progress made on internal-duolingo and the "Snake" and you can access lessons on both of them through "Tree" and "Skills" on your Duome profile (is this one yours? https://duome.eu/brewerpablo/progress ). Unfortunately, it is impossible to access Duolingo stories from Duome because of Duolingo software structure.

Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
There is one more address to access the old "Tree" Duolingo design with both lessons and stories: https://join.duolingo.com/learn (this is a direct link to stories: https://join.duolingo.com/stories ). This site works exactly the same as internal Duolingo with exactly the same blocked functions (like "Shop"), but it is usable and Duome records all your progress on it too.
Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
FWIW- I just tried https://join.duolingo.com/stories and received a message that "Stories are currently unavailable!
They’ll be back after a quick fix. Try earning more crowns while you wait".
The link previously posted doesn't work either. Same message. I hope they do come back.
Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
You can try https://www.duolingo.com/practice-hub/stories

No luck. My browser just chops off the Practice-hub/stories part of the URL

Mondly.
But you need to be Premium.
Also supports a reply of the whole dialogue for one or two speakers.

Android app V5.52.5 from 16. April 2022 gives access to the stories (tested for finished Portuguese tree).
It's just the old tree design, not the new path/snake, be aware!
Maybe install the Apk on an Android emulator software (virtual machine).

Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
Thanks to everyone who posted the various links to the stories. I used to really enjoy the stories, also, and I was sad that I couldn't find a way to access them any time I wanted to anymore.

Not really.
www.duolingo.com/stories was the old link, now just gets redirected (new hub).
www-internal.duolingo.com/stories isn't active (maintenance mode) either.
https://www.duolingo.com/practice-hub/stories only seems to give access for completed stories, for reviews, but not unread new stories.
So yes, you're locked out on the web portal if you don't use the older Android app version.
Maybe the direct story links could work from the collected story backup threads... or use daKanga's LTS project.

Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
Now I'm also looking for this.
For example, I found the post viewtopic.php?p=41531-archive-links-to- ... sh-stories
Direct links work fine.
But I am looking for the current stories with the world characters. Can you create a similar table?
For example, if someone wants to read a Spanish story, but it would be in unit 87...
It is a funny situation, I can go to the removed stories, but not the new ones

Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
About old stories: I remember having seen on the DL forum quite a few links of old stories, which were segments from novels by E.A. Poe. However the titles were in Spanish rather than in English. As I review the current stories in the courses having them: they are always in the instruction language, rather than the target languages.
As such those links must have been in the Spanish section for English learners. I am not really looking forward to 'read those old stories using DL'. It is easier just to take the book of the shelf where it has been waiting to be read for over a decade.

Re: How do I read stories on the snake?
I sent Duolingo staff a bug report yesterday.
The link https://www.duolingo.com/practice-hub/stories or https://www.duolingo.com/practice-hub/ is not working for me anymore.
All finished Portuguese stories are nowhere to be found.
Can't practice them on the Web with listening mode (one speaker has hidde text) and 20+Xp reviews.
Why?
Is is the same on your side on the website?

I found one of the threads about discontinued stories in the DuoLingo archived forum:
https://duolingo.hobune.stream/comment/50692846 You find the link to the Edgar A Poe novel: 'The tell-tale heart' in the first comment (El corazón delator).
Before you start checking: the links to the old stories only functioned while those pages still existed. Nearly two years later, everything seems to have been shredded.

Most of the old stories still work. The only one that doesn't is "The tell-tale heart".

Those links still work for me to see stories in French and Spanish. Haven't added Portuguese, so I don't know about Portuguese.
