מִיוֹמָנוֹ שֶׁל חֲתוּל-זֶבֶל לאנגלית

Post by Corinnebelle »

So I thought I'd try Zimozie idea and see how I go translating something from Hebrew into English. Here's the link to the סיפור בעברית.

Diary of my precious peace,

One more morning rose on a street in Yalik. A third morning and beautiful as it was not seen here already a lot of time. The garbage truck is the alarm clock of all who live on the street, and today it was exceptionally noisy. The driver of the truck was in a bad mood [a position of bad spirit], because he didn't stop honking the horn to clear rolling the cans on the truck and speed came from the inside the wonderful garbage of yesterday.

"Take, take all!" I howled to evram and under my tail.

I'm sure my mistakes will be quite hilarious.

No, that's Bialik street.
Bialik was the national poet.

Diary of my precious peace,

No, שלום here means "hello", not "peace". So it's "Hello my dear diary".

A third morning and beautiful as it was not seen here already a lot of time.

שִׁמְשִׁי = sunny, not third.
כָּזֶה = such, or like that.
So it should be: "Such a sunny and beautiful morning..."

because he didn't stop honking the horn to clear rolling the cans on the truck

לַבָּחוּר = at the guy
So it should be: "...he didn't stop honking at the guy who rolled the trash cans to the truck..." or something like that.

and speed came from the inside the wonderful garbage of yesterday.

הֵאִיץ בּוֹ = he urged him, told him to do something quickly
לְרוֹקֵן = to empty
So it's "... and he urged him to empty yesterday's wonderful garbage from them."

I howled to evram and under my tail.

יִלַלְתִי = I meowed. Do cats howl in English?
לְעֶבְרָם = toward them, at them
מָתַחְתִי = I stretched
So it's "I meowed at them and stretched my tail."

Apparently they do. I was thinking more along the lines of yowling, but I guess they howl and yowl and meow. Looks like I need a more comprehensive dictionary to get the words right. Doesn't look like the words I thought I knew without the dictionary were always correct.
