Your duolingo forum registration isn't automaticaly transferred to duome forum so in order to join duome forums you need to register with your existing or any other username and email; in any case it's advised that you choose a new password for the forum.

I thought I'd understood how declining adjectives worked:
Gendered: no change
Neuter: end with "t"
Plural: end with "a"
However, saw this example
"Det är det självklara valet"
Why is it "självklara" and not "självklart" ?

It's because of the definite article. With the indefinite article it would be "Det är ett självklart val." It's not really an explanation, just how it works.
Other examples:
Jag ser ett stort hus.
Jag ser det stora huset.
Jag ser en stor byggnad.
Jag ser den stora byggnaden.
