51 units is newer and is what you get if you start from scratch.

But 57 units hasn't changed (yet) if you started it.

I checked it:

Nov 2021 -> I created some test profiles and activated the "one path option" in settings. At that point, it was able to switch between tree and one-path. IT from EN switched from 66 skills, to 57 units. It was not possible to get the 51 units.
Jan 2022 -> One-path was there. When creating new test profiles, IT from EN had 51 units. Also my main profile changed from tree to one-path, from 66 skills to 51 units. But 57 units were still in test profiles.

Quite a lot less than French, but I'm assuming that's because the parts are often 9 lessons. I don't know anyone learning Italian, but this shall be very helpful for me:)

Real life. I know people learning French and Spanish but Italian is much rarer.

I got a notification on the web today, that they had moved me along the path, because they had changed the course.
But since I cheated my way out of the course, the only difference I can find is that some of the lessons on the duome tree isn't quite following the topics it's supposed to.

They did that to me also. I was moved quite far into the last unit. I was about to finish unit 50 with only the roundup of the last circle and of the unit left to do. Before changing over to the path/snake, I had a red owl. In DuoMe it stays that way, but so does the number of crowns.
