¿Un pan? Isn't "pan" uncountable like in English? :?

I would translate “ un pan” in this context as “a loaf” . In English you can buy bread (uncountable) or loaves of bread (countable).

"A loaf" doesn't really make sense in this context. They have only one delicious loaf? The other loaves are not delicious?

In Spanish it can be used both ways so it depends on the context. Given the sentence one would understand that the speaker used it in a general way to refer to all the bread sold at the store, however, the speaker could actually be referring to a particular type of bread, excluding the rest. Yes, the sentence is ambiguous as it is :D

Section 12.3h of RAE's NGLE lists nouns that can be countable (left column) and uncountable (right column). For "pan," the examples given are:

  • compraremos un pan (we will buy one load of bread)
  • compró pan (he bought bread)

By the way, I would include the preposition "de:"

  • La tienda de al lado tiene un pan delicioso y yo siempre lo compro

There can be more than one delicious loaf but I’m just buying one of them, because I’m not greedy and am happy to allow other people to buy the remaining loaves!

To see this sentence in terms of "loaf" would actually be a bit weird: how could anyone know which of all the loaves is the delicious one? :D Given the sentence I'd say it sounds more natural to speak about types of bread, so "un pan" would mean "un tipo de pan en particular."

Anyway, I'd say that in this case most Spanish speaking people would understand "un pan" as meaning, "all the bread sold."

ALL the loaves are delicious. This is the best bakers in the city. It’s queued out the door, no bread left on the shelves by 10.00.🍞🥖

Ah! So it was the uncountable version then ;)

Nada como un pan recién horneado!
Nothing like recently baked bread!
