I know everything's just getting started here - but will the comment boxes learn to shrink to the size of the comments in the future?

At the moment there are enormous blank spaces requiring the user to scroll down longer than necessary to reach the next comment.
Looks unsightly, uninteresting and starts to get a bit tiresome after a while.

Not everyone is going to provide a long interesting discourse and offer further vital information regarding the OP's post.

Maybe expandable/retractable comment boxes might make it more readable - and encourage more comments?

It seems something related to the size of the right section (avatar, personal data, flag,...)

With big avatar and little text in the comment, the below space is huge

Some avatars are for my taste too big. It should limited to a smaller size (width and height). I guess it would also solve the problem with the unused space in the comment box.

My avatar is from before the limit was changed. It was originally 90x90 pixels. The sysop increased that, and now the limit is 200x200.

There were people who requested an increased limit. I can see that yours is set larger than mine.

Yes, that is correct. But these are two different problems which are a kind of related, true. One is the upload restriction. The other is the how it is rendered on the page. Maybe that could be fixed with css by putting a fix size to the circle or something like that.

What about a compromise; and take a median of the two?
So 90x90 vs 200x200, the median would be 145x145?

That said, I think that the concern is, people have trouble editing the dimensions of the avatar. Once it is uploaded, they do not care how it is displayed.
My suggestion would be to allow the 200x200 uploads, and simply display those images as 90x90?
Wouldn't this be feasible?

• IrfanView, open image, CTRL-R resize 90x90, save, upload.

90x90px avatar is enough in forum posts. Anything more just clutters the pages.

Larger image could be shown in everyone's Profile page.

I am not complaining about the size of the avatar. I am fine with that. Especially in the comments. The only thing which should be fixed: In my profil the picture is now in a oval shape. Maybe this was done by accident.

My guess was that all user with big avatars now have an oval shape in their profile. But I am not sure. For example in the profil of -Paul77- I can see also an oval shape. And he had also a bigger avatar, if I am not mistaken.

Some are oval.

I think I am going to have to make my picture bigger now. I had reduced it to reduce the signature space, but now with the profile resize it looks fuzzy. All goo though!
