This was a hard one. I tried, but I'm not really confident in my abilities. I'd better check out for the next few rounds.

Yes, it was long, but not that complex. I thought it to be more about vocabulary than grammar. In all truth, I've seen example sentences from Duo way more difficult than the one I proposed. Anyway, we will have time to see what everyone found to be the scariest or most difficult part(s) of it

As far as I can tell, everyone seems to have finished, so:
MustafaOuz526752 and Meli578588, please PM me your translations (into English).
Please, everyone needs to write the sentence you received at the translator-jumble page so I can then copy them and paste them all together in here in one post. I already wrote your usename there so you just need to add your sentence.
This is going to get interesting!
Thanks everyone!

I was so confused why there is so much French content. I tried to fix the names back. It seemed as if a French autocorrect walked all over them.

Could I have done this without knowing it ???
I wonder because it has already happened that my tablette gives me a translation in French even if don't ask for it. No idea of how it works. Could it have translated your page ?
If so, I'm so sorry...

I had found it quite surprising that someone had taken the time to translate everything by hand (I assumed that)... but given that there are always people with enough time in their hands
Yes, if you didn't actually change it manually, then your device must have done it It is a collaborative page, therefore, changes are automatically saved.
No problem, don't worry. This had already happened before, but I didn't mention anything, I just fixed it, however, that page is not very user-friendly regarding editing and fixing things, like the table, and eventhough it is supposed to have a versioning system... it really leaves much to be desired, so I ended up having to fix it once more...
Well, mystery solved

I'm amazed how far this game has come. I am enjoying the subtle flavors of language. gmads Thanks for making this happen!
Also when I opened the TJ page, it asks me if I want to translate it from German, I click no, but obviously we must all watch out that we don't translate the page. I don't know why it wants it translated. The page is in English.

Translator Jumble game. Fourth round. Results.
*** Results ***
Gmads: Starting sentence (English)
The artist entered the cafe and went to his usual table, and although the atmosphere was saturated with cigarette smoke and dimly lit, the somewhat cold and regal appearance of the young woman who came to serve him made her look as if she were under the sun, so he could not help but exclaim "what a bearing of the maiden!"
Gmads: Spanish >> Véro-bis3, Explorer, Stasia, Cifi
El artista entró al café y se dirigió a su mesa habitual, y aunque el ambiente estaba saturado de humo de cigarro y tenuemente iluminado, la apariencia un tanto fría y regia de la joven que se acercó a atenderlo la hacía lucir como si estuviera bajo el sol, por lo que él no pudo sino exclamar "¡qué porte el de la señorita!".
*** First Branch
Vero-bis: French >> MustafaOuz526752
L’artiste est entré dans le café et s’est dirigé vers sa table habituelle, et, bien que l’atmosphère ait été saturée de fumée de cigarette et faiblement éclairée, l’apparence un peu froide et princière de la jeune femme qui est venue le servir lui a donné l’impression d’être au soleil, si bien qu’il n’a pas pu s’empêcher de s’exclamer « quelle allure a cette jeune femme ! ».
MustafaOuz526752: English >> Gmads
The artist entered the cafe and headed for his usual table. Although the atmosphere was saturated with cigarette smoke and faintly enlightened, the a-bit-cold-and-princessly appearance of the young woman who came to serve him gave him the impression that he was in the sun. Consequently, he could not help exclaiming, "what a look this young woman has!"
*** Second Branch
Meli578588: English >> Gmads
The artist walked into the cafe and went to his usual table and although the atmosphere was saturated with cigarette smoke and dimly lit, the somewhat chill and regal appearance of the young lady serving him, made her seem as if she were under the table sun. Then he could only exclaim: "What a beauty this woman has!"
*** Third Branch
Duome: English >> Gmads
The artist walked into the cafe and headed down to his usual table, and even though the place was filled with cigar smoke and dimly lit, somewhat cold and royal attitude of the girl that came to serve him made her appear as if she were lit by sunlight, so he couldn't help but exclaim: "what a beautiful maiden!"
*** Fourth Branch
Alivated: English >> Gmads
The artist entered the coffeeshop and went to his usual table, and although the room was saturated with the smoke of cigarettes and dimly lighted, the cold and somewhat royal appearance of the young lady who came to serve him made her seem as if she is standing in the sun, so he could not help but shout "what a stance for the lady."

*** My observations ***
What I liked about the sentence I proposed is that this was a real sentence to be translated, as proverbs tend to be just paired.
Yes, it was a relatively long sentence (quite an understatement? ), but I didn't think it was going to be very complicated
As I mentioned in a post exchanged with @Explorer, I wanted this sentence to be about vocabulary/expressions, more than grammar:
- dimly lit
- the somewhat cold and regal appearance
- what a bearing of the maiden
I struggled a bit between choosing bearing and demeanor.
I had fun coming up with this sentence, so I hope you all had fun doing your respective translations
For anyone wondering, the sentence came from my own comment after seeing the image of la señorita

Re: Translator Jumble
Which was your first impression of the sentence you received?
When I received the German sentence number 2, I had the impression of a description at the beginning of a crime novel. But maybe that's because I read so many of them.
I wondered a little (but only a little) why the young lady (junge Dame) of the first part became a woman (Frau) in the exclamation. Because of the rather classical style, I would have expected "Mädchen" in the exclamation, but then I thought: maybe it is a modern text after all.Which was the most complicated (scariest ) part to understand/translate?
In Italian I still have great difficulties with the tenses and sequences of tenses. I then try to lean on French, which is often more successful than German or English. In a scale from 1 to 10, how difficult would you say this challenge was?
Middle - 5/6In a scale from 1 to 10, how much fun would you say this round was?
it was my first round - a lot of fun : is 1 best or 10?Did you learn any new words or concepts in doing this translation?
tenses and sequences of tenses for Italian; and I still have to look up a lot of vocabulary

Re: Translator Jumble
First impression: MoniqueMaRie described it pretty well. I had the impression of being reading a "Krimi".
The scariest part was the concatenation of subordinate clauses. I was also quite unsure about the use of the Präteritum tense. It is often used in the literary style, but it's not that common in the spoken language. I had the feeling I was going to mess it up, since I'm not used to speak this way.
Difficulty: compared to previous rounds I'd say it was an 8.
How much fun: 9
I've learned I need to read more Krimis
May I propose the sentence for the next round?

Re: Translator Jumble
My first impression: that's quite long for one single sentence. This got even stronger after translating it into German. If I had written this in an essay at school, my teacher would probably have said I had better split it into two at least.
Difficulty: 9
Fun: at least 8 and still lasting
Scariest (or most difficult): Some of the words didn't seem to go well together using their standard translation. E.g. I disked "schwach beleuchtete Atmosphäre", so I changed made it a "schwach beleuchteter Raum". And his exclamation at the end, I still don't fully understand it, nor did I find examples for "What a bearing" (now that I know the English version) on Reverso context.

Re: Translator Jumble
On that subject change in Branch 1:
English the [...] appearance of the young woman [...] made her look as if she were under the sun: absolutely unambiguous that it's her being in the sun (or more precisely looking as if), and not him.
Spanish la apariencia [...] de la joven [...] la hacía lucir como si estuviera bajo el sol: there's ambiguity with the verb estuviera, but we still have la hacía lucir which clarifies that it's her.
French l’apparence [...] de la jeune femme [...] lui a donné l’impression d’être au soleil. This infinitive construction seems more ambiguous to me. Can it be either the artist who feels as if he was in the sun or the waitress who looks as if she was in the sun? If so, I would still assume the first option to be the more likely one, mainly because of the description of her appearance. Something cool or cold doesn't seem likely to give someone else a sunny feeling.
What do you think, especially native speakers of Spanish and French?
