Well, it doesn't matter. We are all fluent at least in our native language and that's more than enough, but if we have a some relative knowledge in the language(s) we are studying, at least to be able to use Google Translate, or whatever other means one may want to use, well, that's even better because then one may practice a least a little tiny bit in a fun way.
If you take a look at the table and the two following lists at the translator-jumble page, you'll see there's space for at least two "I'm studying" languages. For example I'm starting with Arabic, but I didn't include it because I wouldn't even be able to determine if what GT says is relatively correct or not, but I did include portuguese because in this case I know enough to go and try to use the little I know and I feel confident that I could actually tell if what GT says sounds right or not.
We all hope you join in You know, the more the merrier

Re: Translator Jumble
For me, I can say: I usually don't need a dictionary when I read an English book or a short and simple French text (I still need a dictionary for the French book I am just reading). But the only language I am sure I can write directly without a dictionary or translator (nearly) without any mistake is my native German.
Translator jumble sounds like fun.
I knew it as "stille Post" when I was a child. The bigger the group the funnier the results.

I added my name and languages to the list.
There was a time when my (spoken) Mandarin was not too bad. But that's some time ago. And writing was never my strong point with chinese...

Latin: Vulpes celer celeris spadixque fulvaque canem pigrum transilit.
Japanese: すばしっこい茶色の狐は、のろまな犬を飛び越える。
Traditional Chinese: 敏捷的棕色狐狸跨過懶狗 。(Simplified Chinese: 敏捷的棕色狐狸跨过懒狗。)
I am very confident in both of the Japanese (native) and Chinese translations. As for the Latin translation, please feel free to point out any mistakes.

I cannot tell for japanese, but I think
敏捷的棕色狐狸跨过懒狗 could be translated with
Vulpes celer brunneusque salit super canem pigrum.
You found "spadix" for the red-brown colour of the fox. That would rather be 红褐色, wouldn't it?
I have been checking with:
Langenscheid Latein-Deutsch / Deutsch-Latein
Google translate
Deepl.com
Dict.cc (Latin /German)
Leo.org (Chinese /German)
My Latin knowledge is rusty. I had 5 years of latin in school (for Germans: großes Latinum) and lately finished the tiny course on Duolingo.
Chinese was my hobby during 6 years at university: one hour per week during lecture times, not during holidays. Ever since it has been my constant hobby
So I am not an expert in either Chinese or Latin.

Thanks for your response. I realized that it should be "Vulpes fulva" for "brown fox". So the whole sentence should be,
Vulpes celer celeris fulvaque canem pigrum transilit.
The Latin word "brunneus" (brown) you mentioned is probably more like Late Latin / Medieval Latin, it is not wrong, but not classic Latin.
If "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." in English means "the fox jumps over (= on the top of) the dog", I think your sentence
"Vulpes celer celeris brunneusque brunneaque salit super canem pigrum."
works.
Vulpes is feminine, so "celeris" et "brunnea".

Re: Translator Jumble
4th round
Let's try a new scheme:
0 Gmads: English → Spanish
1 Vero-bis: Spanish → French
1.1 MustafaOuz526752: French → English
2 Explorer: Spanish → German
2.1 MoniqueMaRie: German → Italian
2.2 Meli578588: Italian → English
3 Stasia: Spanish → Polish
3.1 Dana_Dany Danuta: Polish → Russian
3.2 Duome: Russian → English
4 Cifi: Spanish → German
4.1 Lama.03: German → Arabic
4.2 Alivated: Arabic → English
As shown, in this round the starting sentence in Spanish will take different routes as I will PM it to Vero-bis, Explorer, Stasia and Cifi

Re: Translator Jumble
Yes, a little bit
I think this round will be really interesting because now we have an actual sentence (instead of a proverb) to be translated, and more languages than ever before —representing five different language families: Semitic, West Germanic, Romance, West Slavic, and Eastern Slavic. How cool is that?
I started defining fewer but longer translation paths, but after trying different combinations I began to think that shorter paths would allow us to see more clearly the effect of certain combinations. I'm sure we all be having a great debate once the translations are published

Hi! I was not totally following this long forum and still, but now I started to get some idea about this game. How fun! May I join from the fifth round, perhaps? I can do English → Japanese ( incapable of doing the other way around ) or Mandarin→Japanese (I can try the other way around, too). Gratias!!

Unfortunately I'm unable to translate anything complex into Japanese. My knowledge of the language is rather passive. It would be great if there were more Chinese and Japanese speakers participating in the game.

Yes, indeed! Though we would need one or two more participants with some Japanese knowledge. In the mean time, please check the Instructions to start participating, and enter your info at the board.net/p/translator-jumble page.

優しい言葉をかけてくれてありがとう。でも、そうは思いません。
This week's sentence was more like a whole paragraph from a detective novel. You'll see.
I have to accept my own limitations and learn from those who know more than I do. And that's not a bad thing. It's the point of departure to discover new things.

Great! But sent to whom? You are the leaf of the second branch (Explorer...)
Keep your translation (ita → eng). We all need to keep ours and wait until MustafaOuz526752, Duome and Alivated have theirs so we all can then publish our sentences at the translator-jumble page.

Re: Translator Jumble
This is just an idea of me who doesn't understand various European languages…;
I wonder if it would be even more interesting if we added a literal English translation to each sentence after the game result came out?
For example,
One should not sell the bear skin before killing him.
取らぬたぬきの皮算用 (Japanese translation)
A pelt calculation of racoon dogs that have not yet been caught (literal English translation of the Japanese sentence)
Addition;
Or... am I doing completely off the chart??
