Introduction to the Swedish language

This video introduces you very briefly to what the Swedish language is about.

It situates and compares Sweden with its neighbours Norway, Denmark and Finland, situates the Swedish language amongst other related European languages, and mentions some of the most remarkable properties of the language, such as the fact it's all quite "simple" in its basic principles compared to some quite difficult languages French, Dutch, English or Spanish. Swedish grammar has been simplified a few times in the past.

Near the end of the video the narrator reads some paragraphs from "Tales from Moomin Valley"
The day that you can understand that fluently, you may consider yourself fluent!
But there is a long way to go before you'll reach that level of speaking and listening.

Especially the understanding of fluent, sometimes quite fast, spoken Swedish, is probably the most difficult part of the learning process. Because when written, you may very well recognize similar words from Dutch, German or English, and with very similar meanings, so they're not all false friends (some are though, as their etymology and their use-cases have evolved in different directions)
