By looking at fremanolas's signature I found out that some countries need the whole name in order to show their flags. You can get Thailand's flag by writting :thailand:

Hmmm, let's see:
:israel: :portugal: :saudi_arabia:
Yay, it works! :D

Of course.
I've copied part of my Duolingo post without editing that block, and since I was asked there to add Swahili (even though it was in the long block above of HTML flag codes), I've added the flag and wrote that it's the "Same as Tanzania flag", so people can see there's no need for the image. I figured if someone there didn't know, maybe some here won't know either, so I thought keeping it was best. (I can edit the line out if you think it's confusing).
Thanks for adding the BBcodes : )

And also a question: My profile's flag says "Andorra" and actually I'm in Spain. But my native language is catalan and not spanish! Is it possible to add the "catalan" flag as my image's flag?

Just out of curiosity: I wonder why my flag in the signature are linked to https://twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f1e9-1f1ea.svg. I didn't insert it as an image but as an Utf-8 character. Even when I insert a utf8-flag from a different site (🇩🇪) it is still linked to twemeji. Are they substituted by the twemojis?
It isn't that important. I just don't understand it :)

If you mean you don't see a tooltip with the URL of the image. Yes, that is true, but in the context menu of your browser you can copy the link of the image and than you will see it where it is from. Alternatively you can inspect the image and you will see it in the source.

I don't get a response when I hover over your flags.

That would be a nice feature to have. I wonder all the time whose flag is this, whose flag is that.

On Duolingo somebody even made a script at some point to show the name of the country in a tooltip on hover.

Exactly what kind of script? Because I know how to do that on Google Chrome by using an extension (such as Styler Beta), which lets you to add your own JavaScript codes to websites.

Firstly, it would be better if this feature were implemented in the forum itself, just like all the other tooltips on hover that already exist (the country flags under the avatar image, various forum buttons, etc.). For obvious reasons, like security, not everybody being able to install scripts, possible script breaking on future updates of the forum code, etc.

Back in 2017, there was a script named Duolingo Flag Language that worked nicely for a period of time. Here are the details:

https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/22428803
https://github.com/vaughanchandler/duolingo

This script stopped working after the Duolingo updated their forum code. It was also the fate of many other scripts.

Hello my friends! I am worried because Martad hasn't been able to adapt her Argentina flag to her profile.
The problem is: She can't find "edit profile" for that reason. I am THANKING YOU ALL in advance.
I explained to her the way that I did it. But she found that issue. Sincerely

It's difficult to adapt this flag to the "pixelated and framed" style, and with the same brightness and poor definition as the rest of the flags.

But it looks correct:
