2022 is a documenta year

Post by MoniqueMaRie »

The documenta is an important exhibition of arts. Usually it takes place every fifth year. The whole city of Kassel becomes an exhibition during documenta times.

Check out what https://documenta-fifteen.de/en is showing

Documenta 15 just has opened and already has it's scandal: mural had to be removed

I plan to go to Kassel this year (again) to see the many other points of the exhibition.

My visit to documenta fifteen (last weekend)

There are always individual pieces in certain halls that I like.

But here are the two places where the documenta exhibits were so integrated into other spaces that I particularly enjoyed both:

  1. the Grimmwelt, where the playful approach sometimes made it difficult to distinguish what belonged to the normal exhibition and what to the documenta exhibits.

  2. a Catholic church houses Haitian artworks. I have read that some morbid-looking sculptures from Haiti on display there have caused irritation or even horror among some viewers. However, since medieval Catholic art also often deals with death and depicts skeletons, I felt that this Haitian art was a perfect fit for the church.
