[SD] Il y a sept appartements dans cet immeuble...

The entire sentence is:

Il y a sept appartements dans cet immeuble: deux au rez-de-chaussée, trois au premier étage, et trois au deuxième.

There are seven apartments in this building: two on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and three on the second.

Umm. Two plus three plus three equals eight in my neck of the woods.

See exhibit one below for the question in Duo.

This question comes from the Housing skill-- that's 3.18 on your Duolingo French tree.

I also got these questions when doing a practice lesson on this skill:

La cuisine est au rez-de-chaussée.
The kitchen is on the ground floor.

Les chambres ne sont pas de rez-de-chaussée.
The bedrooms aren't on the ground floor.

Here's the vocabulary list for 3.18 Housing from Duolingo for Schools:

Housing : SEE TIP
1 . visité, aimé, acheté, quatrième, étage, ai, maisons
2 . payer, préféré, cinquième, habité, le, la, argent
3 . mur, tableaux, sixième, septième, préférer, premier
4 . cent mille, appartements, mille, dollar, million, cents
5 . payé, centime, huitième, neuvième, autre, autres, seulement

which means those sentences don't fit under any of the vocabulary list in that lesson.

The phrase rez-de-chaussée is introduced in the lesson 4.1 City 4.

City 4 : SEE TIP
1 . vendre, attendre, entendre, vends, attends, entends
2 . attend, entend, vendent, attendent, entendent, rien du tout, vend
3 . bizarre, vendons, attendons, entendons, vendez, attendez, entendez
4 . répondre, descendre, répond, descend, escalier, réponds
5 . rapidement, quelqu'un, répondez, répondent, immédiatement, rez-de-chaussée

Umm, housing was one of those updated skills.

I found a version of the song La demoiselle de bas étage which uses the words rez-de-chaussée a few times. The French actors remind me of Laverne & Squiggy from the old tv show Laverne & Shirley show. I think La demoiselle de bas etage is one of those songs that everyone in France knows. Notice how the audience claps along to the song like they know it. Shirley chante comme une casserole but I thought the clip was entertaining enough.
