On Sunday we were wondering in a group of friends what the construction "Goûtons voir" is all about. Is this only used lyrically or could it also be said in a normal conversation?
Goûtons voir = let us taste and thus see(?)
Or how would you translate it as literal as possible?

Let's taste to see if the wine is good. I do not think that goûter voir is an idiom or fixed phrase on its own. The character literally suggests trying the wine to see if it tastes good.
It sounds "patois", old rural dialect. The expression suggests the terroir, the traditional products.
I've found it used as a slogan for wine or food tastings.
I think it is a shortcut for : "goûtons pour voir"
