I learned in Duolingo that both mean “that”. So I’d like to ask about the difference like is there a specific rule for each or it doesn’t matter which one I use.

There is a difference in distance between them. 그 is, on the one hand, used to talk about things close to the listener. 저 is, on the other hand, used to talk about things far away from both the speaker and the listener.

그 could also mean 'the' and 'it' , 'the' for known stuff, 'it' for anything or any ranges
이(것) 'this' for shorter range
저(것) 'that' for more far range
저어어어... (기) where is so so so... far away from here, for some fun
