Is duome linked to Cloudflare?

Post by John Little »

My own forum was recently attacked over night by bots who totally drained my bandwidth for the whole month. I reached out for help grom my host and was curtly told I had to use Cloudflare to sieve out the bots.

They ate up about 150gb in a few hours by requesting the same pages over and over with hundreds of thousands of hits.

I was reluctant at first but had no choice if I wanted my site back on air
In the end, it was actually free for my site and most of the work was done automatically with just a couple of redirects in the whuk control panel.

Bots now gone and Im back to nil hits once again! But does duome have something similar?

Cloudflare is blacklisted here where I am for some reasons, so it's not an option for us, and sadly there are no affordable options for individuals to replace it either (it would double or even triple the cost of hosting, while still being somewhat inferior to what Cloudflare offers for free).

Our web host doesn't care about the bandwidth, but they do care about how many seconds of cpu/database time it takes to serve all the requests. We are database-load-limited more than anything.

I suspect duome, with its amazing database of info, is a prime candidate for content scraping. Which probably explains the regular temporary down times. I asked whuk if my bandwidth could be made a daily allowance meaning an attack would be short lived but they said no
