This sentence is scientifically and grammatically correct. However, in everyday Japanese, the word “star” usually brings to mind small points of light in the night sky, so referring to the sun as a “star” can feel a bit strange to some people. For this reason, it sounds more natural to use the term “恒星” (kōsei /literally, "a parmanent star"). Alternatively, describing it as “星の一種” (Hoshi no isshu/ literally, "a type of star") is also appropriate.
