Post by Fakugan »

Hello everyone !
My mother tongue is french and I also have a good level in english.

I'm currently learning scottish gaelic at a beginner level and I would be interested to chat with someone who speak scottish gaelic.

We could chat in scottish gaelic and practice this Language together or you could help me with scottish gaelic while I'll help you with French !

I'm looking forward to your answer :)

Welcome -

I don't know how many people check here regularly. Other places to try are --
Facebook - I think there is a Duolingo group and also a Scottish Gaelic Duolingo group.
Fòram na Gàidhlig - https://www.foramnagaidhlig.net/foram/index.php
The Foram has fluent speakers checking so it's a good place for grammar questions. There have also been posts about study groups. The moderators are in Europe - so you might find someone who also speaks French and is learning Scottish Gaelic.
Reddit Scottish Gaelic subgroup r/gaidhlig - https://www.reddit.com/r/gaidhlig/

You might already know all this - but I'll post a few online links for Scottish Gaelic learners in case you haven't seen them. I don't speak French so these are all in English. --
Duolingo Scottish Gaelic has a notes page based on earlier versions of the course. It was written by the same fluent speakers who wrote the course. The topic titles no longer match the topic titles in Duolingo - but the sequence of lessons is similar, so it might be helpful - https://duome.eu/tips/en/gd

Bòrd na Gàidhlig has the LearnGaelic website with several older courses, a good dictionary and thesaurus, and grammar - https://learngaelic.scot/

Am Faclair Beag is a great online dictionary which provides current usage and also corresponding text from Dwelly (a 1909 Dictionary) --- https://www.faclair.com/index.aspx?Language=en

The Misneachd Alba (Scotland Confidence) group has a series of youtube videos for basic (A1) Scottish Gaelic - The youtube description for each video has a link to a shared google docs pdf that you can download with all the text that the video lesson covered --- Cùrsa Gàidhlig ---

When you get to the point of wanting in depth grammar, you might like the Akerbeltz Beagan Gràmair website. Here is the table of contents page: https://www.akerbeltz.org/index.php?tit ... an_gràmair

Finally the most recent "official" online Scottish Gaelic course is SpeakGaelic. The text books are available from https://gaelicbooks.org/
SpeakGaelic has several links. The main course page has downloadable pdf files for all the lessons and grammar (the books at <gaelicbooks.org> are a compilation of all the pdf's from the website for each level).
