speaking issues

Post by lrai »

I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I am a Native English speaker learning Russian but I am doing both the Russian - English and the English - Russian. When I am using the English version which uses Russian there is a section that comes up on my tablet (not laptop) that has flashcards with the Russian word and I need to say the English word. I am currently doing a section that has the word in Russian (police officer) and I say it in English and it continually tells me I am wrong. Heck, I'm a native speaker, I think I can say police officer in English but Duo keeps tell me I can't. This morning I yelled it and it worked...LOL, does anyone else have this same issue with this one part of the lesson???

Is this happening also when you do the reverse? So you speak Russian but when you say the Russian it tells you that you are wrong? Just seems odd. BTW I do the reverse tree as I have found that it is very helpful in remembering words in Russian. I highly recommend this method for review and learning.

It's been a long time since I last tried doing language exercises on Duolingo.
It never worked for me in any language, not even my native German.

But who cares: the French in France seem to have no difficulty to understand me and even sometimes ask me where I learned such a good French.
With Polish it would surely be different...

I've been having the same problem. I admit not all my pronunciations are spot on but some are pretty close (close enough for jazz, as some might say). But its inconsistent. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be any difference but it fails and other (rarer) times I get away with a pronunciation that is pretty far away.

I also worry about the increase in time those exercises take now I'm on energy but, so far, that hasn't been a problem despite the number of repeats.

I have the same problem. Most often in italian, where I will admit my pronounciation needs some work. Especially on full sentences.
But today it kept failing me on "sedia" ("chair"). How many ways are there to say that wrong? Apparently quite a few according to duolingo, because I sent it to native friends just to check, and they said it was fine.
