How to become verified on duolingo?

The verified badge how do some people have it and if I want it how can I get it?

Well it was new to me. But a quick google says it does exist but only for special people who "are an employee of duolingo or have a special connection to Duolingo"

I think it was a language problem. I got the impression that no-one (except possibly myself) were natural English speakers but everyone was doing quite well writing in English but not well enough to avoid misunderstandings.
