Where can one find or earn streak freezes nowadays (Android or Web)?

Hello all,

where can one find or earn streak freezes nowadays?

It's only relevant for this Android platform (not iOS!!) or the Web portal.

Finally, DL staff decided to disable the two challenges in the Leagues for my older Android app.

Normal lessons / practice/ review don't give us access to win streak freezes, I guess?

What about one of the three star exercises on the path UI left and right? Only on level 3? Also on lower levels 1-2?
My old app didn't have them.

Maybe I'll try another .APK download version on another Android phone.
What version would this be which makes a bit of sense?

I'm not a fan of those silly timed word pair matches in the Leagues which several older and newer app versions forced us into.
For Portuguese they're nonsense as they're not RECALLING exercises; for French I don't think I'll benefit from them under speed pressure.

I tried one newer app version 1-2 years ago and it kinda was broken, the BACK button functionality got damaged / patched to death which heavily affected lesson exercises hardly to be manageable/ usable.

Is the only option to buy a streak freeze with Gems nowadays, no chance to win one or two?

I find that it's pretty random when one gets offered a streak freeze. Usually, I just buy them using my gems.

Duolingo is currently ripping me off of Gems when I do French exercises (usually the third circle or last review).

I hardly manage to make it through with 4-5 hearts when I try myself on free FR typing and my own vocab / grammar sentence constructions.

Yesterday I noticed that I'm also losing hearts on the Web when Duolingo can't detect my French speech correctly.

I'm getting a bit mad with 2-3 refill rounds.

I don't have this interest to throw away my Gems for this nonsense.

On the old Android app I don't have energy and I don't lose hearts but free typing is pretty limited.

I noticed that the third path level (round circle) flagged as HARD is gone and Duolingo limits us to two crowns; the last circle is only a personalized practice round on the app but a true lesson circle on the Web (without the HARD info).

That's the main reason why I was asking for ways to earn streak freezes.
I'm losing Gems quicker than I can earn them

For the normal 1-2 lesson circles (path levels) I guess I will stay on the Android app so I won't be constantly losing hearts when I try my own FR answers.

"Learn from your own errors" doesn't work with Duolingo anymore when you're constantly getting punished for trying.

While tapping is kinda OK for 1-2 first crown levels, full typing and RECALLING tests is what pushed me ahead with Portuguese 2016-20 to drill the grammar.

I need to try to stop wasting Gems.
A freeze costs less than to refill five hearts.

Yeah, I hear you on the gems. It's annoying. But if I miss a day it's the only way I'm usually able to refill my streak freezes. They used to give them away more freely for a perfect lesson or similar, but that stopped ages ago.

This was an unfair change that they implemented a long time ago. You get three chances to answer a "speak" question before getting the challenge marked wrong, but you're only allowed one mulligan before they steal hearts. The incentive is to hit 'can't speak now' on the second try & thus not really use Duolingo to try to improve your speaking. You can get 100% on the lesson and still lose hearts!

I suppose as Duo changes we have to change our methods. What worked for a system that had five rounds of L0-L5 lessons for a skill is not going to work for the puny 15 lessons per skill.

I have a suggestion on where to look for streak freezes. Did you look in the streak society? If you click on the number indicating the length of your streak, which is at the top of the android app screen, you get the streak society. Just scroll down when you see the calendar.

They fill my streak freezes on every 100th anniversary of the streak if I have any vacancies. I seem to recall getting other offers and other chances on that screen the one time I used a streak freeze.
