what is a freeze shield?

Dumb question, but on my tablet app I can buy a freeze shield for 7 days (3000 gems) but what is it? What is it supposed to do? How is that different from a regular streak freeze? I have 5 days saved up, so does this give me 7 more? Sorry if this sounds dumb but I really don't get it and I am not sure it's worth it. I mean it's nice to have the streak freeze when you forget to log-in on time or miss a day, or even need to take a day off, but it would be great if with "new" options there were some where to get answers to "dumb" questions. Just like the questions I have about missing badges that were here one day and gone the next with no rhyme or reason. Maybe it's just a test to see if we notice things like that...hmmm.

Basically, it differs from an ordinary streak freeze in that if you miss a day, it will continue to protect your streak until it runs out. Whereas if you have 1 streak freeze, and it runs out, you will lose your streak the next day if you still aren’t active. If you already have several streak freezes I don’t think you need them.

so if I just want to lose one day of a freeze, use the single streak freeze otherwise if I use the super-duper 7 day freeze I better have 7 days off or I just wasted it. I am guessing that is what will happen. Yep I'm rushing out right now to spend 3000 gems for this new thing! Gotta love it. NOT

Yes. Whereas a regular streak freeze would elapse by day 1, a streak shield could continue protecting your streak even when you can’t open the app/are not active to buy new ones.

Hm... if a streak freeze costs 200 gems, would it not be cheaper to spend 1400 gems for 7 days? The only advantage I see, is, that with the shield you don't have to login in this 7 days, while for buying streak freezes for 200 gems you have to log in every 2 days, because you cannot buy more than 2 at once.

So I would have to be very very far from civilization for buying a shield in advance. And, in the end, a streak is not that overly important for me. Nice to have, I like it, but hey, life goes on, even with a lost streak... Time to start over, then!

Oh, and by the way: In the web/desktop-version it is not available yet. I'm curious if it will make the jump from the apps to the web or get abandoned before.
