Practice changes

Post by bball »

i have been doing the irish course for well over a year and as of nov 2025, and am a family member of a super account holder, as of this week the pactice unit reviews have changed now showing sentences instead of just word practice, why has this happened and is there a way to return to words only?

Maybe it depends on Ios vs Android vs Web and app versions.

What platform are you on?

Could also be course specific?!
Or A/B related to experiments...

Was there a course update for Irish recently?

The EN->FR CEFR course for example always gives normal sentences or even forces you into French paragraphs in tge target languages or tries to push you into a two person dialogue where you shall select the next logical answer as a reply for the second person.

I NEVER have seen single words for unit A1 reviews.

The /practice Url on the web portal also provides neither multiple choice answers, word banks, cloze-deletions, or some word pairs.
But never only single words for review like an SRS app would do it with flashcards.

I'm fully aware that the IOS app might offer a list of single word reviews, at least I heard about this, but this has nothing do with a unit review on the path UI.

IMHO the reason for a review is something different.

I do enjoy those occasional longer paragraphs. They do also come up in a review.

As I said, it might be course dependent. You barely can compare French and Portuguese with Irish.

Isn't Irish an older volunteer course?

Got it its first updates / full restructuring for CEFR and their AI gen approach based on the global language model?

I thought Duolingo Inc. will only concentrate for now in 8+1 languages?
Irish was not even included.

The change might then be platform or app version related?

It could just be progress. You can go back on old lessons if you want to revise words but isnt it good to start doing whole sentences?

I still don't understand it :-)

Since when did Duolingo offer only single words?
On the old discussion forums I heard from former contributors that in the Incubator for one new word at least 3+ sentences must have been added.
Is this correct?

This hardly makes any sense seeing them without any context.
Standard DL courses always have been with FULL sentences and in a unit practice or review usually you'll get full sentences (or paragraphs)... with some exceptions.

Or do you mean Legendary as a unit review?

If you want to drill single words use AnkiSRS, Memrise, Memorion,...real flashcard systems which are based on more concrete spaced repetition (SR) intervals.
